I see lots of people coming here trying to get rich quick without putting any effort into it. First off, if you aren't even interested in your website's content, why bother? After a while you will get bored and give up. Second, if you get enough traffic you will make money with or without adsense. I've recently discovered some ad companies out there that will accept you once you get a certain amount of traffic. Right now I'm just at the start of building a dedicated fan base of my site but hopefully the trend continues up. :)

Some of the get rich quick crowd probably do. Most dont. Most will eventually be dumped by the search engines and the system. We dont need more middlemen with nothing to add apart from extra cost/clicks.

Because they're a public company and the big shareholders like institutional clients want results. The big G believes they will be able to reduce 90% of these auto-gene'd sites with their algorithyms. In the meantime, Yahoo and MSN are promoting these sites thereby increasing G's bottom line. I think in the end any person spitting out auto-generated sites is in an uphill battle as they will always be inclined to stay ahead of the search companies. This may still not be too difficult currently, but as we can see it has surely gotten harder compared to just a year ago. I don't think this can really be seen as a solid business plan that can produce long-term profit.
