The reason I ask is because what stops someone from going to your site and spam clicking your adds?

How does adsense determine what click abusing is?

I need to know so I can take all precautions in avoiding this.

nothing stops someone from clicking your ads..
When i had a click attack a while back, google automatically discounted everything after the 2nd or 3rd click. Google looks at IP, time between clicks, the vernal equinox, and several other factors.

to prevent click abuse don't tell your friends and family about your website, keep YOUR fingers away from your own ads, watch your AdSense numbers closely, and keep all your logs.
If you see anything suspicious, email AdSense right away.

Unless you have enemies I don't think you need to be too concerned. AdSense does seem to be able to distinguish between one person (who isn't you, of course) clicking repeatedly (they delete the clicks and don't penalize you) and a systematic and subtler piece of click fraud from multiple sources. In the latter case they will probably ban you, even if it wasn't you. They don't want a site in their network that people get so worked up about that they will go to considerable effort to attack it.....

Nothing, save your own vigilance in policing your site.

Only G knows for sure. However, you can learn some general concepts in abuse prevention by studying techniques in intrusion detection, anti-spam, etc.
