I have been adding MFAs and other rubbish to the filter for over a year. It always increased my income. Everything that did not DIRECTLY sell a product or service went in.
Its been full for months and I cannot filter any more.
Today earlier I removed them all.
Now lets see what happens. David_UK tried this in another thread. iI expect to get similar results.
My income this month is lower than average after a really good Dec, Jan, Feb. Those months were 125 average daily, varying by a maximum of 21 dollars up/down including weekends. More usually they were within 5 dollars... This is normal for my site - very constant average income for over two years in fact.
This month is lower at an average of 110 daily with a bad start early in the month of 90 ish. Its been steadily improving back to the usual 120+
Now I suspect that todays earnings will be low. Very low. Because in a few hours all thise spammy MFA sites will be back! How long does this take?
Lets see! Will post later on to let you know what the figure is before I go to the pub! Normally it has always been between 75 and 95 (by 9.30) here in the UK. Any guesses?
Very brave Nitrous, so you better have that drink indeed. I am very curious about the results! (Not the results of the drink but the results of emptying the filter)
Tommorow it should read (just after 10am here) slightly higher than average (tuesdays are usually the best day.)

Not as many MFAs are displaying ads as I expected but there is about 15 to 20 percent of the ads.
By this time of night it should normally be about 60 dollars. At the moment its 46. Thats about a 30 percent drop from the "norm" so far. And the lowest I have seen it at 7.30 pm in over a year.

So far we are up to 51 which is a record low over the last year! Traffic is normal to good.
Not looking good! I will post again at about midnight. By then its usually between 90 and 120...
Any guesses? I suspect it will be around 70 Click through is down slightly, as is epc lots, and ecpm is falling as the day goes on. Remember that this only started after about 5 oclock because it took that for adsense to update its "thing" for want of a better term.
The experiment tends to go on longer than 24 hours, as it takes a while for the real ads to re-appear after reinstating the block list. Yesterday was OK (considering) once the real ads EVENTUALLY re-appeared, but today is back to mormal.
I've emailed Google with more details than I could post here in the way of specific sites. I wait their canned reply from the Google fortune cookie generator(tm) algorithm with bated breath.
I'm hoping they will at least read the thread and let the impact of this sink in. I really hope they take note, but I guess I'll just get the usual canned response and the MFA's will still not be ejected from Adsense.

The last time I did this was last year for 7 days. My income dropped eventually to almost half. It recovered completely in36 hours after pasting the MFA/other rubbish back in the filter.
Plus, another angle for using the filter is, (if you are in a niche with lots of advertisers that is) it might even help ad blindness by generating new ads and new combinations of ads.

I'm realy nervous to touch anything at this point when I scream past $200 in the afternoon as I'm calmly working toward the UPS club and would hate to break something along that path.
Is it a matter of just looking at each ad on the various pages?
I see in my records anything between 90 and 130 regularly. not outside this much...
Lets say its 25 percent low.
Thing is I just checked my sites and now cannot see any MFAs! Just the usual ads.
Dont know why. But I may need to continue this for another day. Maybe not! Depends how I feel when sober.
The next 6 hours or so normally do little, I expect about 10/15 dollars.
... IF AND ONLY IF it is a very narrow niche.
In my niche, technology, the more URLs I add the more earnings I have, higher EPC.
I'm going to add a bunch of sites to my filter tomorrow and monitor the effect on my earnings for a couple of days.
I think ads you see from your desktop may not be exactly ads your visitor see in their secreen.
I did a testing recently. Just wish to share with you guys. I stayed outside US. I have remote access to US and the rest of europe and also asia countries, the ads appear in my side will always different from the otherside.
So, probably you didnt see those MFA sites but others see that.
Just my 2 cents opinion.

Yesterday I removed all the filtered sites (200) from the competitive ad filter. I didnt do it until after dinner, and it took a few hours for the MFAs to reapear.
Remember that it runs from 8am to 8am here in the UK!
Result was, lower income by approx 21 percent over the previous average from the months before. Not as bad as I expected but bad all the same! Click through unchanged, epc down a bit.
Traffic was in the upper range.
But remember that this was really only half a day. And the real result in the long term would be even worse because this result is artificially "good" for the follownig reasons.
a) the "new" (mfa) ads are atracting fresh clicks from regular visitors. That would wear off in time.
b) smartpricing would likely screw you up further still.
c) The crappy ads (as my girlfriend says "those links just lead to more links") would decrease peoples willingness to click your ads.
So as of today I am replacing them all...
That experiment only cost me 25 dollars in income (guestimate) but it told me yet again why we should be blocking these parasites.
Does anyone know if it's worth it blocking shopping and price comparison sites? I'm seeing a lot of them and I suspect some of them don't perform well.
