IMHO, we'd all be better off if Google reported AdSense impressions, CTR, earnings, etc. only after the end of the day (or maybe even not until the end of the month!).

Actually, I have to say I agree here. There were a lot less of these threads about "My stats have floored" posted before noon when adsense stats updated some hour behind. I used to enjoy waking up to a nice amount of money I didn't have when I went to bed :)
I personally don't analyse on a daily basis (except for exceptional traffic spikes) and use weekly or monthly data to spot trends.
I'd also venture to say you'd be posting pretty quickly if your ctr was steady for a year then dropped so significantly
I wouldn't be posting just eight hours into the day--especially I know (not only from experience, but from reading this forum) that impressions and clicks are often updated at different times, and it can take a while for one to catch up with the other in Google's reports (which aren't calculated in real time).

I concur. I hardly ever calculate my stats on a daily basis.
Adwords actually has a footnote that says: "Reporting is not real-time. Clicks and impressions received in the last 3 hours may not be included here."
Would be cool if Adsense listed the same comment.

Again, I agree. I've been in the Adsense game for quite a while, and I've learned that one day of stats can't tell you a whole lot.

We'd be better off if posters read library threads, link dump issues etc before they post. Not by removing features for people who know how things work and how quirky they can be.
a) a sudden increase in PSA ads
b) crappy ads that dont interest your visitors
c) off topic ads when AdSense targets improperly
AND
d) sudden influx of off target traffic which can happen because of a bizarre index anomaly in a search engine so people looking for something completely different landing on your site are less likely to click

con771, you do know about Big Daddy and Google's recent changes, don't you? It could be just that the mix of traffic has changed.
<added> If you think it's targetting I'd sit it out for a day or two before making any changes. Especially as targeting was OK before. </added>

I have been looking around and it does in fact seem as if ads on my site for the last two days are not targeting correctly, before this past weekend things were fine.
Any ideas what to do here? I know I can block some 'crappy' adds but from what I have read this seems like a loosing battle
We had a similar problem (probably) earlier this week. Up to now our key words (site topic) weren't being "found" by the junk site people, until this week. We were getting ads for "the top four sites on [topic]" and the top three, etc. Basically 4 of the 5 ads in a block were scraper type sites.
I blocked about five of them, as much for our visitors as for the money, and the ad displays (and the money) seems to be closer to normal since.
So, I think it's worthwhile, if only so that your visitors aren't seeing the junk ads, and ignoring the worthwhile ones.
...but your mileage may vary.
Maybe what we need is a permanent, monthly, or weekly "My stats have tanked" thread that people can post to instead of starting new ones.
You know what would be really informative? Being able to actually go look at the sites where people are thinking the "stats have tanked".
I understand the webmasterworld policy, and it's worked well, but not being able to post url's means we can't look for patterns to figure out WHY some sites go downhill. If we could, the patterns might emerge as to which sites, topics, even layouts, etc are being dinged at any specific time.
I'd actually like to see a section where people could post their adsense tanked information, including url's, here, but I guess it would probably get abused.
Bill, if you make a statement about your traffic/earnings etc I don't assume it's your blog. I kinda suspect you have at least one other site somewhere. I do.
But I don't believe knowing the URL is useful. I'd rather not know.

Not true, I wouldn't be better off.
If there really is something going on I need to know so I can make decisions. If everyones stats are OK but mine show zero, it could for example mean one of my ISP servers is down. Or it could mean I only get PSA's for some reason. Some of us buy traffic with Adwords. If you get no impressions in Adsense but your Adwords campaigns continue to roll, you are burning money.
So I am very happy my stats are refreshed every 15 minutes! For the same reason I believe the "is-adsense-going-wild?" and "are-stats-stuck?" posts are useful. Perhaps you don't need them for your business model, but I do.

Bill, those URLs won't display in the profile until the members are "full members" (which can take a while).
Are you sure it's not Junior members? I don't actually have a real url displayed but what I have entered is displaying.

Not when someone posts a question with enough information to ponder possible causes for the problem opposed to the usual "my earning are down" type posts. Con771 gave clear and concise information on his statistical anomaly to which I could think of several valid causes to investigate, one of them happened to be the cause.
When people properly post the questions answers are possibe ;)

Did the classic 501's ad ever make it to the US? You know - the one with "Heard it through the grapevine", laundrette of women ogling this guy stripping off to wash his jeans. I know it changed the underwear habits of a nation by sending boxer sales into orbit, but did it ever sell any jeans?
