Forcing Relevant Results from Adsense

Any ideas?

When using Adsense code on SOME of our pages the adverts that are returned by Google are not relevant to the topic of the page.
An example of this is trying to get Google to display results on a page about 'Horse Trailer Insurance' and all we get is ads about 'Horse Trailers'. The keyphrase 'horse trailer insurance' is in the Title and Description in the HEAD. It is also in the H1 tag and then in some text on the page. The images also have alt tags with the keyword.

The same goes for our page about many other subjects where the ads returned a slightly 'Off Target'.

Is there ANY WAY of forcing / tricking Google in returning ads for a specific keyphrase?

Any help on this would be gratefully appreciated.

Welcome to WW, Hough.

Have a look at this link from the Adsense help area, which explains section targeting. Hope that helps.

<edited to add> ps: it can take a while for the effects to kick in, so don't expect instant results ;)

Are you sure that there ARE ads that target the keyword phrase "Horse Trailer Insurance"? And don't assume that there are just because you see them on the Google SERPs. The advertiser would need to be targeting the content network.

I agree with Hunderdown's remarks.

The phrase, "horse trailer" is surely more popular (and probably searched more in Google) than, "horse trailer insurance".

As a note, if you only had the keyword, "horse" on that page, you would see lots of horse ads. If the keyword, "trailer" was the only one on that page, you would see ads for trailer hitches, movie trailers, etc. If the keyword, "insurance", was only used, you would see a ton of different types of insurance ads.

I think the Google algo is utilizing the combination of "horse trailer", but may be having a problem with "horse trailer insurance" since it's not a popular search term.

In fact, I just did a keyword search and the term, "horse trailer insurance" was only searched for a few hundred times during the entire month of January.

I would think about focusing more on, "horse trailer" because the algo will have a problem returning ads for "horse trailer insurance".

Of course, if you're an expert in this field, you probably know more about the availability of horse trailer insurance than any of us!

Thanks everyone. I have looked at the link that malachite sent through and that seems to hold the best solution so far.

"horse trailer insurance" when searched in google does have relative ads with advertisers. you need to keep working on the page to get relevant ads.

Frosty Mug, as I said, just because there are ads on Google for "horse trailer insurance" does NOT mean that those same advertisers are also using the "content network" (that's us). They can choose search, content, or both.

He can only be certain that such ads exist on the content network if he sees them on other sites...

If there are such ads out there, then section targeting might help.
