I worked as a junior administrative assistant earning only $1,800/ month (minus taxes = few bucks short of $1,500). Who would work for this kind of miserable monthly sallary and tolerate two idiots in the office (one is supervisor and the other is the owner of the company)?
With Adsense, I am free, I have my life back. Being self-employed is great. I already made enough money with the Adsense to keep me from the office for a long time. To hell with working for somebody else, being your own boss is the best!
I hope this post serves as an inspiration to other friends on this board!

I think all those serious about making a living from adsense are inspired by posts like this and genuinely please when someone else achieves their aims.
How long has it taken you to reach the current level of $, how old is the site or sites, any other pointers you can share?

I quit my job six years ago. Started with web design, moved onto SEO, then Affiliate Marketing, and in 2005 tried out AdSense and the like.
I'm not convinced AdSense is the best "earner", but, it is certainly an earner that can work for many people who want to go it alone.
At the end of the day we all need to eat "cake", and AdSense provides cake. Some other options offer cream on top, but, they become the pure luxuries of life :)
I'll pat you on the back once a month max and March is still young ;-)

I'm about half way towards that goal at the moment. I'm considering handing in my notice in about three months anyway.. I may be quite poor for a while, but I hope I will be happier. The thought of being able to take a wander outside and sit in the sunshine when I feel like it instead of being cooped up in a glass cage is what drives me on.

I quit a job I was disgusted with back in November, and decided to take a few months off "for the holidays." I went back to work at another job in early February.
I dont make quite enough (between Adsense and affiliate sales) to stay independent just yet - but its a great feeling to realize I can walk away from any job I dont like right now.
It seems more difficult each day.
Every month there is some sort of big change that whacks the revenue. Latest was warning from yahoo about foreign visitors - wham! revenue cut in 1/2 again.
Back to the pool...
I mean, the earnings are going to be there whether you login or not. If there is a sudden drop in earnings, you most likely need to wait a day to see if the trend continues anyhow. You could just be having a bad day. You might have to wait weeks before you can really evaluate and get something useful out of your stats anyhow.

I was thinking of quitting anyway so it wasn't that big of a deal.
Now I make a lot more than I would have working in an office.

I still work on my sites in my pass time after ive got 10 great important high traffic sites with different eggs and baskets and all that I might just take a six month break and see if it works out!
Actually thinking about moving to spain for a month to work on the sites - and a nice break from the UK.
I guess refreshing adsense would be more tiring, not to mention highly disgusting especially if the earnings are high :).
As for me, i am a student so the question of quitting doesnt arise. But if you ask me, i would advise everybody not to quit their jobs. Its better to have fixed small guranteed salary than a variable high income.
I work even less than what you would call part-time and make enough to cover hosting and a few extra bucks. But the inspiration here is enough for me to take up this work seriously. After my exams are over, in June-July, i hope to make leaps in adsense and in my site which is relatively new ( opened Jan 06 ).
You know 1500 $s is what a fully qualified charted accountant would earn per month in Pakistan! So adsense , due to favourable conversion for us is really really profitable. Especially i think , i as a student have a great deal of time in the vacations.
Anyways, i wouldnt advise anyone to quit their jobs unless they are at the age of retirement. All that glitters is NOT gold! ( On a second note, i think adsense IS gold! )
but, I'm certianly hopeful in the future of my web earnings. those of you who have reached a point where you can live comfortably off of your adsense eranings, I say more power to you. I mean who would've have thunk it 10 years ago that yes you can make a hell of a lot of money from the net as individuals.

why? after university, i never was dependent employed. starting out as a hobby site, web business is the best job for me. if at all possible, i will be self employed for the rest of my life. i am able to handle variable income. just put aside and save non needed earnings for the worst case.
if you start from scratch, you need at least one year of time and spare money.
..and to add: it's not everyone's cup of tea. you have to be 'capable' ;)
I'm not sure which is worse:
Working for 'the man' or spending 18 hours a day at your computer pressing 'refresh' on the AdSense earnings page every 2 minutes.
Get SysSense (free) for your IE desktop. I've set mine to refresh hourly and now I only visit AdSense once a day to check on yesterday's totals.
