Hi,
The adsense ads for the site that I run are not very optimized for my page. I should start by saying that my site has been optimized for content and usefulness to the user. I don't want to add keywords all over the place that would distract the user, but I want to add keywords somewhere to impact the type of ads that I attract.

For example, my webpage is a fansite for a musical group. Visitors come to my site primarily interested in guitar tabs, etc. I would like to have my ads targeted to keywords like "guitar", "taylor acoustic guitars", etc. Instead, I get a bunch of stuff about mp3 sites and random other stuff.

Where is a good place to put keywords that will effect the google ads, but not much else?

Try using <!--google_ad_section_start--> as suggested in the google blog.

I find that the url is very effective - call your page guitar.html.
Also, in the title section of your header, have guitar as the first word if you can,

Getting a bit tricky, use css to reduce the font size for H1 to something insignificant (but NOT invisible) and use <H1>guitar</H1> right at the top of the body
text.

Then you can use the alt attribute of your first image, make it 'guitar'

Mention guitar if you can a couple of times in the rest of the text.
