I recently joined adsense and currently have one small 2 text ad banner on the left column of my pages. I have seen other sites that have this in multiple spots. How do you do this? Do you just get new code from the adsense site and then copy and paste? Is this against adsense TOS?

You can have up to three ad blocks per page. Yes, you can just copy and paste the code--no need to go back to AdSense, just use the same code (unless you use different channels for each position, which would be a good idea, so you can see how you are doing).
Be sure to experiment. Sometimes less is more. Adding another adblock to a page can actually reduce earnings, because the ads will be lower-earning than the ones in the first block.
