I do know you should be careful not to click on your links or you can get banned from Google Adwords. I have clicked a few by mistake when I have been previewing edited pages in front page. They still only show up as those charity links when previewing in Front Page, and touch wood i haven't been penalised for that yet. But, I really would be careful about clicking your own links - however accidentally on your own site. You really wouldn't want to get banned.

Well I hope you will now know not to click your own ads. One big factor here will be how many other clicks you received. If you have several thousand clicks per month and only 5 where due to your accident then you may well get away with it.

If on the other hand you do not receive very many clicks, and a high percentage of them look suspect then you are very much within the radar.

I hope you are ok in this instance, but I can't say one way or the other (no one really can except Google) but I hope you learn from this mistake.

Mack.

uff :) i always get that answer even though that isnt the question!

so how many times do you "accidentally" click on your own links and how many times do you ask the same question?

if you have made less than $ 100 over several months then i wouldn't worry about it too much, google have bigger fish to fry.

You should be ok...be more careful in the future.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to make a sticky for this topic?

Just wondering...

if you really want to know then tell Google of your sins and promise to never do it again. You'll likely get the response you are seeking.

I've accidentally clicked, everyone has, accidents happen when working on your own web site day after day. Now if you have a few hundred accidents they may hunt you down.

Don't panic, just work on your web site and leave the ads alone.

i'd love (wouldn't we all) to know what the system is on fraud, just out of curiosity and obviously not to abuse it.
On any significant site, accidents happen, but accidents amount to say 0.01% of your clicks. So only a moron would be doing that deliberatly and I figure google knows this.

I am with Adsense now for almost a year and I clicked my own ads on 4 occasions.

1. I was busy updating my own website and saw an interesting and catchy message, and I clicked it.
It's hard to describe what happened after that, but let's say I invented an entire new category of cursings. After that I mailed G and apologized.
Got the standard canned reply, never heard anything again about it.

2. I was updating my website, not using my desktop but my laptop without a mouse but with touchpad. The d%mn touchpad is far too tiny for my big hands so now and then I click something by accident, in this case an ad on my own website. Again much cursing, a mail to G and the same stupid canned reply.

3. Same as 2.

4. About 4 weeks ago I was busy removing some MFA stuff using the preview tool. Now the fun part is the preview tool pops up right in front of the real ads. If you close it, the little arrow is left right on top of the real Google ads. And somehow, I double-clicked to close it, resulting in closing the tool and clicking a real ad. Since I was in a hurry, I had no time to mail G and I haven't done that so far.

I am receiving a fair amount of clicks from visitors all over the world. I guess G is smart enough to know that 4 clicks from me in a year don't mean Jack!.

I clicked an ad on my site the other day when I was in the middle of something and completely forgot about it until now. It was just my site in preview mode so it was a PSA anyway. My daughter, 10, once clicked one of my ads, I told her she could get me "fired" for that, don't do it again(she got the message). Another time that I remember clicking was trying to get a screen to close out, the screen behind it was my site with Adsense. I don't think I reported that one either.

An accidental click here and there will not get you banned. Write to Google if you are worried, to ease your mind. For me, if an advertiser is worried about 3 accidental clicks(in over a year) out of over 1000 per day, that's not the kind of advertiser I want to deal with. If they are that worried, just block my IP.

I accidentally clicked once and wrote to Google immediately about my mistake. I was told not to click the ads again.

If you are in doubt please contact Google. Do you know the exact date? If you do then please ask Google to refund back those 5 clicks you made.

I have knowingly clicked on 1 ad in more than 2 years of using AdSense. I immediately wrote to Google, citing the ad. I got the usual admonishment about clicking ads on my publisher pages but Google took the trouble to remove the click - all 11 cents. They care - and you should care - so let them know when you do it.
