I've been of the mind that blending your text ads to look like part of your page makes sense and yields a better CTR..
But yesterday I read a post where it was recommended to make the ads stand out from your page for better CTR (sorry, can't find the thread now).

IN GENERAL, which is better? blending, or making them red (or something) to stand out from the rest of your page?

?

My ad blocks have always been pretty well blended, but after a bit of advice last week, I removed the borders and ctr over last few days has gone up from the usual 5-6% to over 8%. Obviously such a short time span proves little and may have nothing to do with it.

For me I got better results when I blended the adverts into my colour scheme by removing the borders and having the same BG

however I made the change more for wanting to create a clean looking site, as opposed to making it a more "advert focused" site, but it came with a good side effect :)

I think blended tends to yield better results. It may also be an idea to test the colour rotation feature of adsense to reduce ad blindness.

I've found rotating the color of ads to be very effective on one of my sites. On the others I use the blend in approach. You really need to test and see what works best for a given site.

I've had better results with blending. I think people have banner-ad blindness, and this includes adsense blocks that stands out too much
