What are we worth?

Do the accumulated earnings of WW-members matter to Google?

In an other post, Elsewhen stated:

"the portion of revenues shared with Google's partners, increased to $629 million in the fourth quarter".

So Google shares about 2,5 billion a year with Adsense publishers. I can't imagine, cause I read somewhere else that G's annual turnover is about 2 billion, but let's assume the 2,5 billion is correct.
What if we accumulate all Adsense earnings of WW-members posting in this forum, would that be a significant amount of money to G?

to be able to determine how valuable we are to google, you have to consider the total revenues generated...

Google's partner sites generated revenues, through AdSense programs, of $799 million

this means that they made a profit of 170 million (799 - 629) during the fourth quarter from ALL of their partners.

i have not seen figures relating to the percentage of this that goes to members of the "search network" vs. plain adsense. i am sure a large portion of their revenue goes to the search network.

Of course they do, not only are our earnings important our constant feedback/whinging gives them new ideas for improvements.

Just how much of a percentage of overall income we earn is anyone's guess. I used to estimate there were about 50,000 Adsense publishers however it's not possible to estimate now with EFT etc therefore it all becomes a numbers game:

50,000 @ $100 average per month = $5,000,000
50,000 @ $500 average per month = $25,000,000
50,000 @ $1,000 average per month = $50,000,00

Whichever it may be it is a significant number since our earnings represent our sales commission efforts from Google as publishers for promoting their advertising network.

Sure, they would survive without us now however why lose something which actually costs them very little effort these days. We're the ones who do all the work in setting-up, optimising and promoting our sites.

We're the ones who do all the hard work with the tools Google has given us and the Google team sits in the background, manages the advertisers and tries to catch the scammers whoever they may be.

No one in business in their right mind is going to discard small businesses who have made so many inroads and free promotional effort on their behalf.

Unless one's business is a motor manufacturer of course, then brains do not apply!

Just to chip in, I don't think there's any question that WW publishers are extremely important to Google. We have 2 Google advisors who read and contribute to the forums, and WW is on page one of a Google search for "Adsense". Probably a very high % of publishers have at least visited, even if they don't participate.

BUT that doesn't mean there's any way for us to cash that check, and when you ask "what are we worth" and "do we matter", I think this is what you must be getting at.

We can post about problems or potential enhancements and there's a good chance someone from Google will at least see the comments. But there is no unified group of webmasters here. On any contentious issue you'll always find lots of people on both sides. Even the longest, loudest complaint threads are dominated by squeaky wheels who do not necessarily speak for anyone but themselves. And good luck EVER convincing webmasters to withdraw their services in order to fight The Man. Most (I think) believe in a competitive marketplace above all else, and will drop AdSense the minute a better service comes along, but not before.

It is not really a question of what the accumulated earnings are, its a question of the earning power of those that actually post in this forum. If I may re-interpret the question, as something like

Are the accumulated earnings of posters in this forum going to influence Google

My guess would be that Google are influenced not in the slightest. I would guess at perhaps maximum of 100 regular posters here, at say $1000 a month average income, not more than $10 million a year, even if my assumptions are way out. Peanuts to Google ;)

Google is the company with the huge money making program that us publishers make money with. Publishers aren't worth much to them, if everyone at WW quit the business, there would just be others to fill their shoes. I think google is worth alot more to us than publishers are to them.

But then again publishers are a main source of their revenues.. i just think that publishers are more dispensable to them than adsense is to publishers
