I am just about to receive 40,000 words of content for a new site that I am launching and am considering placing Adsense at the top of the page under the nav bar. Does anyone wish to share what the average CTR is for this type of placement is?

Ta!

I have tried 728X90s, 468X60s, 125X125s and 350X250s on my content sites in many different locations. I’ve followed the heat map and I have ignored it. I’ve tried 1 ad, 2 ads and 3ads. Here is what I have learned:

1. One 728X90 ad placed just below the header (I use left side navigation) works the best for me. It looks the best for my layout and it received the highest eCPM of all types and locations I have tried.

2. I don’t put any more ad blocks on my sites with the exception of an adlinks and a search box. I don’t know if it is my webmaster “eyes” or what, but anytime I see more than one adblock I tend to discount the site as a MFA site. I know this is not necessarily fair but it’s my opinion.

3. I keep backgrounds and boarders white and links blue. It’s clean, simple, what people expect and most importantly, it’s been the most profitable.

I won’t tell my eCMP or CRT but they are in the upper single digit range.

Hope this helps,

I have had the best luck with the skyscraper along the RH side.

It depends on the layout- my site has the nav on the left and content listed down the center. I might try swapping it around with a leaderboard and see what happens.
