Obviously it depends upon each individual site, its content, the kind of audience it attracts and as a consequence, the type of ad and its CTR and EPC.
It is near impossible to generalise, content sites [not mine] I would have expected to perform well simply didn't, while others have their owners tickled pink.
The one thing I know for absolute certain is that every site is totally different, even among sites on a similar theme, similar traffic.
All based on lots of "generalised" feedback.
I expect the best answer is give it a try if you are eligible, that way you will know for sure.
The point is, this type of comparision really has no merit since it really doesn't tell you much. Your site can't be compared to any other site. You will earn what you earn. Just give it a go and see how you do.
Just work hard on your site most of us started with sites that would be lucky to be doing 1.50 a day and now boom can't keep up.
Have a little faith and work on something you love, they money comes later. Building a site just for $ for yourself may work short term but it will never become a 1000 pound gorilla. Being a gorilla is fun!
:)
You can figure out the rest from here.
I have been in the program 3 months now, and in those 3 months i have continued to add new content, which has in turn brought in more traffic (even with the kick in the balls from Florida) which has turned into a steady increase in sales & a very healthy Adsense earnings, but the point is to keep updating your site with new content for your visitors, not just for Adsense as many more here will continue to give you the same advice.
Adsense should be used or viewed as being an added bonus for your work, if the visitors are not interested in what your showing then yes let them click on a add that's of interest to them, but i would rather they stayed and bought something from me instead.
Obliviously this does not work on non selling info sites, where you want them to read/use your content and then click on a Add, that has to be harder to do, but if the Adsense targeting is on the bulls eye, it will work.
"How long did it take you to go from 1.50/day to not being able to keep up? What changes did you make over that period of time? "
1.50 was banners not adsense, almost all of the banner networks SUCK EGGS, they rip you off left and right.
This is going to sound like a cop out but basically we improved content, reoptimized for google and reoptimized again and then again, traffic continued to increase and now I have so many people I had to continuosly add more hardware. It's a crazy ride.
More traffic, more people, more optimization, more hardware, and it just keeps doing its thing.
I have a very content rich site which is very very active, we don't really go out of our way for adsense and try to force clicks as I've seen done elsewhere, our ctr is probably low compared to some places but our users are happy and so are we.
That's it in a nutshell. The get rich quick sites will fade from memory soon enough as google figures out how to get rid of the leeches but mine will still be here 5 years from now.
On an avarage day 400 unique visitors, and I only place my adds on the most popular pages.
spud01,
r u sure you explicitely allowed Mediabot in? When I started Adsense I disregarded Google's advice to put this into the robots.txt, because I thought: hey, you don't exclude anybody there so mediabot can come any time. He (She?) came, but didn't serve any ads.
Don't laugh at me for asking, pls. Just an idea.
Interesting, well the only exclusions I have in the robots.txt file are for directories like cgi-bin, images, etc...
All html pages are indexes by googlebot anyways, so not sure where I'm going wrong in your scenario.
The content of my robots.txt file (hope its ok to post it?)

There are people legitimately getting $100 in 12 minutes, and many more getting $100 in 12 hours. High traffic and clickthroughs usually result in high earnings. Nothing fraudulent going on at all.
The potential to earn $$$ is there - you just have to figure out how to make it work for you.
