Hi All, was put onto this forum by a friend of mine, and have been reading through threads for a while now, fantastic content.

I've seen people earning huge amounts and and wondering how you do it? Any tips, advice would be greatly appreciated? :)

My apologies, how can I edit my post? There doesn't seem to be an edit button anywhere :S

You might start by changing the colour of your ads.

Agreed. Maybe lose the border and use a white background so they're not so "in your face" :)

If you are talking about the site related to your user name...yes, definitely get rid of the horrible background colour you are using for AdSense ads. At the moment this yellow makes you want to run away from them.
What's your CTR?

Welcome to WebmasterWorld JamesatCricketWeb

Great site for cricket lovers, unfortuately I'm not one of them, however your forum board visitors and postings proove that you've got it right.

As already said, get rid of that horrendous yellow. Sure it makes the ads noticeable but it hurts the eyes.

Secondly, the general consensus of opinion is that the Firefox and Monetise buttons are hardly earning anyone a thing.

Definitely consider an Adlink unit either just under your site search or on top of the Skyscraper unit since you don't really have anywhere else to put it, however for some, that's me and a few others, it is our biggest earner.

Ensure you blend the background colour grey the same as the rest of the navigation and use either traditional blue links or your current link colour.

Don't expect to earn much from the forum however the ads are very well targeted so anyone looking for that kind of info are very well served.

Tweak gently, you've a good site, but get rid of that yellow quick.

Thanks for your thoughts everyone, especially OptiRex. It's really appreciated.

My CTR was 0.1% last month and is 0.2% this month, and overall is 0.1%. What sort of CTR should I be aiming for?

Higher! But it's not really possible to have hard and fast rules about this. I would have thought that 1% or over would be pretty easy in the non forum part of your site but then I don't know anything about your niche.

From my experience, blended ads to your content can get u much much more CTR. .1% seems very very low.

Yeah, 0.1% sounds pretty low doesn't it :D

Any suggestions on which ad units usually produce the best affect?

Try using 200x90 adlinks with grey back ground at the left top above the search box. Also you can try the Google Search box instead of the current search box.

I've changed the ads on the right menu and also inserted an ad-sense unit directly into articles. Click one on the frontpage to see it. I thought of doing this across all my pages.

I've also included the Google AdSense for Search.

Thoughts?
