I'm going to go through the five pages of posts, but just in case someone has the answer handy, does the one work well with the other?

glengara, I assume you are asking about running Adsense on a directory of your own?

I have just started using Adsense on a directory. Without going in to specifics, click-through rates are reasonable compared to other sites I have used it on.

The ads are usually on topic. I use the 468x60 banner so there are only two ads and sometimes just one. The directory has 20 links per page with a short description, which should give you some idea of the amount of content.

The directory is only around 120 pages or so at the moment. Hopefully the Adsense revenue will grow as the site does, although I have a banner ad server in place to eventually target advertisers directly and possibly not use Adsense at all.

I have got adsense on a few directory sites, yes they do work well together because you have got a wide diverse range of ads across your site.

mediabot does not pick any of the text from the title or description of directory listing and one of the directories does not have much text on the pages and it did take a little time to change the psa ads to ads relevent to the pages.

Other than that no problems

Thanks guys, couple of supplementals, does mediabot pick up on "breadcrumbs" to help determine page relevancy?
How about acceptance to the programme, are directories generally welcomed?

>>are directories generally welcomed

Google know what sites I have the ads on so I can only assume the answer is yes

when you open an account they check your site, then you can use the same code on as many sites as you require because they track the ads via mediabot

I had no problems getting the first one listed and just added to code to the others, not had an email from google so everything must be OK

what do you mean by "breadcrumbs"

I use Adsense on one large directory I have, and it usually picks out the categories well, although sometimes it gives generalized ads from the main theme of the site. It works out well when it provides really targeted sites, because they blend well with the directory.

Sticky mail me if you want my directory address to show you how I integrated it with Adsense.

Yes Glengara, but it depends on the size of the directory and the level of specialisation of the directory. I am running Adsense on two directory sites. Both are specialist in their own way. One is the primary reference for Irish domains and websites and the other is a Waterford Ireland specific directory of less than 30 pages so far. The Waterford directory would typically get less than 500 page impressions per day while the other can get between 2000 and 15000 impressions a day. I suppose the lucky thing about Waterford Ireland is that it is the home of Waterford Crystal so that would explain why the directory has better traffic than some other Irish county directories.

This is in marked difference to the other directory which has about 73K pages (with another 50K or so that have not been published yet) and has Adsense running on approximately 36K of these pages. It has an ODP subdirectory of Irish/Irish related websites but I have not added Adsense to that because I have yet to go through it for quality control/404 checking.

The problem with any directory is the traffic though. It does not matter how specialised the directory is when there is no traffic.

I've mainly used skyscraper for both sites for the last few months. However I have switched about 27K pages to leaderboard on the big directory over the past few days.
