Adding adsense to a niche site?

I am thinking of adding google adsense to my cookbook site. But I did not see any google ad for cook recipes or cooking or something like that. Anyone has any experience or information about this?

And would you mind telling me if you will be searching online about cooking recipes or books if you are preparing a meal for your family.

I get three Adsence ads when I searched on
cooking recipes
.

I do search a lot for recipies. When I do they are specific to an ingredient or process, such as apple pie or biscotti.

Do you have a specific direction for the cookbook site?

Alexandra,

If you have healthy recipes there are some Adwords for them. Search under healthy recipes or healthy cooking. Plus with the new year approaching I am sure they will be popular search terms, since weight loss is probably the number 1 new years resolution.

Don't assume that the ads shown on your site have to be based on the same keywords that people find your site under. For example, if you search on cooking accessories, baking goods, baking, etc, you get adwords ads also. Those are ads that your audience would probably be interested in.

You could add some sections with information on topics that have a lot of advertisers. Maybe reviews of the best cookware or something like that. You could also figure out what many of these keywords are and see if they can legitimately be integrated into your content.

The key to remember is that you want to get ads showing up that your audience will be interested in. They do not have to be for exactly what your site is about such as "recipe".

My wife goes to a very good recipes site a few times each week. Last week they started adding Adsense. She showed me ads from gourmet sauces to cheese.

Alexandra:

CPC and the others are right, while searching under recipes even "low-fat recipes" gets only 3 adword ads. Other related terms such as "frying pan" gives you ten ads. One never knows what the MediaPartners Bot in his "infinite wisdom" will decide is the best fit, so the only answer is to try it and see.

Regarding your second question, I hardly ever cook, but I have been known to search the net for the one or two times a year that I *try* let me emphasize *try* to cook.

Cooking supplies such as hardware and supplies would come to mind that would go well with a cooking site :)

Since I am a terrible cook, I'm completely incapable of coming up with something decent to eat just by looking at what is in the pantry and refrigerator. So I look for recipes every day on the net. Usually, I type in a couple of ingredients such as "chicken pasta recipes", assuming i have some chicken and some pasta on hand. I've often seen adwords ads on the recipe sites I visit.

I've recently started remodeling my cooking site, and I've been adding AdSense to it. There are several ads showing for recipes, diets, food products, etc.

I am new to adwords - can you control what content shows up in there? I have a site and I am kind of concerned that I will be promoting a competitors site if I use adwords. I will make more money selling my product than I would from anything I would get from Google ads.

Yes. You can ad sites to a filter in the control panel if you do not want ads from them to appear. You may want to find as many competitors as you can that are using adwords by searching in Google for related terms. Then you can block them before they even show up on your site.
