Earnings starting Dec 23rd to Jan 1st were down about 40%.
Jan 2nd, and all is well (thanks Google!).

p.s. Just made my first buck for the Firefox download (guess some things really do take time after all...)

Google probably didn't have much to do with the recovery in your earnings--thank your visitors, back at work, from where they apparently do a good amount of serious surfing.

My site did poorly on the 23rd, 24th, and 25th, but other than that, the month ended with a bang. (I've noticed that I do well during school vacations--I think I get a lot of teachers, and it's hard for teachers to surf at work.)

Whatever the pattern, it's worth making notes for next year.

Yes you're right, the visitors are what split - not Google (sorry). Guess I'm just glad to see the old numbers again and since "visitors" are a faceless bunch, thanked the next thing I could, Google.

Yeah, you are right. People have other things to do than surf the Internet when there is a holiday. Holidays=no AdSense money :(
I hate holidays :)

On the contrary, my PC site was doing quite well starting Dec 25 to 29th. I believe it was b/c people need troubleshooting on installations of their new new geek gifts.

I think this is similar for me. At Christmas, people get given XYZ gift. Because my site is #1 for helping people with XYZ, traffic has spiked and so has earnings. Dec 24th and 25th were pretty bad, but since then things improve.

I was expecting a rough time over the holiday period. I didn't think of what actually might happen, so am pretty happy with the situation in the end.
