How many sites do you have?

There are people that make more than $1000 a month, some even more than $10.000. So I am wondering where this money comes from - do you have some huge sites or a thousand little sites with Adsense on them? Is Adsense your only income?

Please answer only if you make more than $1000 a month!

1.- So many sites as you are capable to write content for.
Ideally, just one but you should have three or four focused on different topics (or sides of your topic) to prevent:
- Google updates
- seasonal variation (i.e.: if you write about holidays, build a site about Christmas, another about Halloween and another about father and mother day)

We have three active sites with AS and make in excess of $1000 monthly.

One new smaller site getting less than a thouthand visitor daily, so no AdSense or any ads there yet.
Have full plans for at least 3 more sites, but on hold right now due to time constrains.
I am not sure how this information can be useful to anyone but hope its useful to you.

Thanks for the responses. They are useful to me. The reason I ask them is because everybody on the web that has made tons of money with adsense says that the way to go is to have a million little sites with adsense on them. I wanted to know if it is really necessary to have so many sites.

I would like to redefine my questions to be a little more specific and easier to answer:

1. How much money do you make with Adsense a month?(this is not against the adsense terms of service as long as you don't tell me your CTR or CPM)
2. How many sites do you have?
3. How much of your income comes from Adsense?

I probably have about 20 sites(I'm making about 4k now which was as high as 8k before one of those updates that dropped my best site), but make most of my money from 2-3. The only advantage to having a lot is you don't always know which ones will become big earners and which ones never will. Sometimes the ones you really want to take off never do and sometimes the little one that you got into just for fun (not a niche with high paying ads) takes off and does well.

I am planning to make enough money from Adsense, so that I won't need a regular job. I want to know how many sites I will need to have to achieve this. I don't think that $1000 is enough to live on, but it's a good start. I would like to earn $2000-5000 from Adsense at some point of time.

I'm afraid you will not be able to get any accurate idea based on the experience of others. You could have 1000 mini-scraper-dynamic sites and make less than $10 a day or you could have one handcoded labor intensive site and make less than $10 a day.

There is more than one way to skin a cat (just an expression folks) and you need to find yours.

I have only one site.

Just keep your effort into that site and add 2-3 pages a day. You will achieve your goal.

Limit to some 2-3 websites so that you can develop them to maximum. If you start some 100 sites and almost all of them are underdeveloped or scrapper sites, then your readers wont come back to your site again.

The domain name/hosting reseller had put their contact email in the whois for the website or were refusing to remove lock on domain name. I did not know much about web hosting then. So instead of wasting time on adding content to a site which I could lose, I created new sites.

I have one big site that accounts for around 70% of my income. I have several others that are growing and should hopefully be considered "big" sites in time.

100+ sites all with Adsense and all concentrating on niche construction products. 2 main core sites generating 66% of income.

I am gradually developing the smaller satellite sites, average 20-50 pages, into even more authoratative niche sites than they currently are...lots of work to do there!

No, I do not regard Adsense as an income whatsoever, my real job is selling my niche construction products. The Adsense income is a bonus and the Ad space is mostly used by my clients advertising their(my) products for direct sale to the trade and public.

I haven't seen that anywhere however it is the way I have been going for the past year or more.

The biggest problem I envisage with any plan like this is getting high in the SERPs with enough quality content and enough backlinks to give a helping hand.

That's why I believe it's vital to have one site that really is a powerhouse (PR7, been around for a while, etc.) So when you make a new site, a link from your powerhouse site really has an effect on how quickly it's indexed, anchor text associated with the site, etc.

It's pretty much the only way I can envision having many more than 1 profitable site that survives from search engine traffic.

If one uses advertising or blackhat techniques to get traffic, then that's another thing, but I don't know any other way to do it through the SEs.

Depends on the site, the audience, and your long-term goals. One problem with having lots of small sites is that you're likely to be more dependent on search-engine referrals than you would be if you had a larger, authoritative site with a higher profile.

The key to what? If you aren't a writer, it may make sense to hire someone who is, but writing is only one aspect of the publishing process.

In any case, there's more than one way to skin the proverbial cat, and what works for some people won't work for others. If you come from a publishing background, it may be sensible to develop a brand and establish yourself in a niche where you can use your editorial content to earn revenues from multiple sources (not just from AdSense) over the long term. If you come from an SEO or affiliate-marketing background, it may make more sense to exploit opportunities as they occur, knowing that change may require you to start afresh and to keep new projects in the pipeline. That's why questions like "How many sites should I have?" or "What topics pay best?" aren't very useful: The only accurate answer is "It depends."

I have three websites on three different topics. I have more than 4000 visitors per day and these visitors equally visit all three websites and read about 60,000 pages per day of these three websites (average 15 pages per visitor).

All the three websites are informative. There is no fee to read of these websites. Our all three websites are equally popular. I am professionally a medical doctor and one of these sites is a medical website. Adsense is not my only source of income. I have a job as well as I am running my own clinic. But my earning from adsens is much more than my job and clinic income.

All these three websites have approximately 4000 pages and all pages are text pages without any photo of any people (like celebrities etc). These 4000 pages are written in three years and I am still adding more pages daily. All the pages are in simple HTML because I have not much knowledge of ASP and PHP. I have done one year diploma in computer science just 3 years ago after 16 years of my medical graduation (MBBS). I am about 48 married having kids.

I am strictly following the TOS of Google Adsense and trying to make website user friendly. Most of our visitors come by search engine & bookmark of my websites. Until now I have not paid anything on website publicity like adwords etc. My mother tongue and national language is not English and most of our pages text are in my national language in gif image format.

Another point to consider is that,
simply specifying a number of sites may not be a good indicator of potential success :{

A better way to approach new sites would be to:

1. Audit current content/competition based on your keywords.
2. Is there a need for your content?
3. Does somebody already fill the need? If so how easy will they be to dislodge?
4. Okay you make $5000 per month, but what are your expenses? Could be $5001?

I use AdSense on 8 different domain names

But more than 90% of income is only from one domain.

This domain has several theme oriented subdomains.
