Are the search bar earnings the same per-click as text ads that appear on your site? For those of you who use the search bar in conjunction with text or image ads, about what percent of your revenue comes from the search bar?

What I can tell you for sure is that search ads bring in much less epc than content ads. So they (search ads ) only make up a small % of my income.

Out of every $100, how many dollars would you say came from the search bar?

My search bars only bring in a small percentage of my total earnings from AS. What I do like about the income I receive from the search bar is - it is sometimes that small bit of money that pushes me over my goals for the month.

Hence: Every little bit helps :o)

I use the search bar on a limited subset of pages of my site to permit users to use Google to search the rest of the site. This actually does a nice job of bringing interested visitors to other site content. For the rest of the site, I use a different search solution which I think better serves visitors, and I display AdSense ads on the output in a significantly less ostentatious manner than Google search results.

The reason I became interested in the search bar was because of its use as part of a "start page". I noticed that a designer was creating custom "home pages" to reflect a particular theme (like a movie theme with graphics of the actors). He would encourage people to make that page (one of dozens) their homepage, encouraging them to use the Adsense search bar smack dab in the middle of the page.

I figured he wouldn't have gone to that much trouble unless it generated a nice profit for him. I was interested in doing something similar but not sure if the money was worth the development time.

Whoops, looks like what this other designer was doing was against G's TOS, and I inadvertantly reported him by asking G if I could create similar search pages =/
