what is the highest EPC you have heard of? Maybe it was yourself or someone you heard about. I am interested (as I am sure are many others) in trying to gauge where my average EPC is in relation to the upper bar.

I think you'd be a lot better trying to gauge where your average EPC is in relation to the average EPC.

Trying to gauge your salary by measuring it against what Bill Gates makes will only make you unhappy.

My guess is the average EPC is in the $0.10-$1.00 range for most people, depending on your niche. The fact that someone, somewhere once made $100 on a click isn't going to tell you how you are doing.

thanks m8. that is very enlightening. i am "average" it seems. But my mind still wanders to what the upper echelons are. Anyone able to give insight?

The fact that someone, somewhere once made $100 on a click isn't going to tell you how you are doing.

How true. Every now and then I get a big click but over the last few years my average EPC has stayed constant within a few cents. In the end I don’t think trying to find big clicks matters. The reason I say this is that’s it’s not possible (as far as I know) to know both the value of the click and the keywords of the ad or even just the ad.

True about the evasive value per click, but you can through channels and I mean going crazy creating those, find out which topics pay you most over a long period and invest in, and develop based on your findings.
I have no solid stats for you but based on my talks I would say it's like a pyramid, the base being the $.10 and the elite top at the $1 or more.

I'll bite... my highest (to my knowledge) EPC was $2 on one click. The Overture bid for these keywords go from $1 to $4.

I have some channels that pay $0.03 per click and two that are around $5.00 per click. The CPM for the highest channels is at around $800.00.

These figures are close but not exact -- TOS.

I have to say that these EPC's are not as much as I thought would be. When you look at the bid price for some keywords - it can be massive. I have seen some for $40 dollars! Of course, these bids are for the search network and may not fully equate to content network. And then of course we have google's cut. and then of course smart pricing. But still....

Best case scenario perhaps - publisher getting 70% or so of $40 dollars. Of course - the actuality is likely very short of this. But even if it is well, well short - I would expect the higher end EPC's out there to be higher than those listed in this thread so far. What gives? Do we think there are niches out there that give =>10 dollar EPCs?

I've seen $4-$5 clicks but I've no idea why or what they were for. The same page usually gets $0.25 clicks on average.

The only way you can tell is by looking at stats and seeing what pages with 1 click and few impressions have earned.

Google is a black box. You know what goes in and you know what come out, but what happens inside is anyone's guess. I'm sure Google likes it that way!

I would think that you could get up to $50 / click. As an advertiser, I was often paying $10 or more per click. I'm a pretty average Joe, so I guess someone could have been getting a pretty good share of that $10.

BillyS, you were actually paying $10 per click?
That's too expensive. I would never pay $10 for a click, not even if Bill Gates clicked to visit my website. But that's me.

you could pay $50 for a click but the adsense site would only get about $34

I get $1 to $2 clicks all the time and I have had some days where I had $9 clicks.

If I were making $34 per click, even occasionally, I would NOT say anything about it....

That may explain why no one has owned up to such delightful experiences.

I got my highest click ever today, $1.67

It was on a page that I figured would generate a decent amount per click, but for a few months was only pulling about 10-40 cents per click.

Remember that the reduced number of advertisers showing (edit - on each adblock) through Adsense will have the inadvertant effect of lowering the CPC, hence EPC.

This will come about due to the bottom advertiser paying much less than if they were at the same position (but above 6 or more advertisers) on a Google SERPS page.

If the bottom advertiser starts at less then it's very likely that the effetive CPC will be lower all the way to the top.

I have often seen this happen from an advertisers point of view.

Have one page which usually gets about 20 clicks a day at .50 per click pretty consistently. One day about a month ago I noticed around midday the first 15 come through at the usual ~$7.50. By the end of the day it had added only 3 more clicks and jumped up to $38 for the day. So those last 3 clicks averaged over $10 each! Reporting glitch/slowdown? Maybe someone screwed up bidding (entered $20 instead of .20) and blew their wad in 10 minutes? Probably never know. It never happened again since.

I once got $20 for a click. This only happened once or twice.

In AdSense my top clicks are in the $2-3 range.

In YPN my top clicks are in the $4-6 range.

Yahoo has been consistantly throwing out $2-3 clicks for me... not holding my breath on this though.

I would never pay $10 for a click

If one out of every eight people that visit your site bought something and you averaged $80 / sale (net), you'd pay up to $10 / click. That's why some keyphrases are so valuable.

And yes, I paid that much for certain phrases. More commonly, from $2 - $6 per click.
