Ok I know its a very general question but can adsense be successful on a discussion board? Lets say its a very popular discussion board and this website would also provide news updates related to topics being discussed, but the main reason for the website is a discussion forum. Can adsense work in this scenario?

It seems everyone says adsense doesnt work well with a site like this. Anyone have any input on this?

Forums usually get very low CTR because a lot of the visitors are repeat visitors. If you can keep driving a lot of new visitors to it then it should do well.

Matt is right.
Regular members look right past the ads.
I get decent traffic, and it doesn't do much for me.
After messing around with every ad program out there on forum pages (and every ad integration tool available), I've come to the obvious conclusion- it's fruitless except for a select few.
Forums have too much content for people to be looking for a way off the page, to be honest.
They don't come to buy things and get sucked into other sites- they come to read content.

I have a discussion forum, but it isn't oriented toward discussion - it's more of a "post your question and get an answer" forum. The eCPM for logged in users is abysmal. The eCPM for guests is quite respectable.
