how will smartpricing manifest itself?

Just started adsense. I have been going a few days now and so far, so good. Very happy with my reported earnings.

I am preparing myself for the worst and beginning to try and research when and how the spectre of smart pricing will hit my account. I read on here that smart pricing is done weekly. Is there a particular day of the week when accounts are reviewed for smart pricing (I am UK account)?

Will this be how I find smart pricing applied to my account? - there will just be a day when I log in - see lower earnings for that day. Then the earnings will be at that lower level from then on (assuming I do nothing to try and rectify).

Will smart pricing, if and when it hits, be retrospective, so it will erode some of my already earnt earnings (earnings that I made before the smart pricing review)?

I know this is quite pessamistic thinking - but I like to see things coming. I hope some of the others here can understand.

Smart pricing will only affect your future earnings, not what you have already earned. And you shouldn't be afraid of it, for many people here (including me) smart pricing has brought earnings up instead of down. When it happens is pure speculation, but it seems it's done weekly.

hermes,

Take a look at this thread that describes how to work out what day of the week smartprice updates:

[webmasterworld.com...]

Smartprice will be 'manifest' in the zig-zags in the EPC trend line you get in the spreadsheet.

"When it happens is pure speculation, but it seems it's done weekly."

Weekly, on Thursday (late), seems to be the consensus of a number of members (for UK accounts).

There's really nothing you can do about it, so IMO it's not worth over-analyzing your stats or losing sleep over the possible effects of smart pricing. Focus on improving your website, building traffic, evaluating alternative streams of income, etc.

I have to agree, there is not much you can do against smart pricing. I’ve had my account for a few years now and I really can’t say that smart pricing has hit me.

To add to other comments about Smart Pricing, I posted elsewhere last week that I tried the various recommendations (eg: removing low CTR ads, etc.) on my site and earnings per visitor dropped to a record low. I've subsequently put the site back as it was - ie ignoring SmartPricing - and income has recovered. I'm of the view that the publisher should concentrate on content and allow the Google bot to maximise income.

Different things may work on different sites, though. And CPM ads may be an exception, as it appears that Google may have got their algorithms wrong. It will be interesting to see if banning CPM ads (which I'm doing via the filter for the time being) will have an effect.
