Does Adsense currently allow you to put an adsense advert below the first post in a discussion forum? I thought I read that this was not allowed before.

Is it allowed now?

you can do that but on forums i would be careful if you do a header or footer include because they dont want the ads to be on registration pages if i recall.

They don't want them on registration or login pages, which i find terribly difficult to do on phpBB, with using the over_footer.tpl template.

Are you sure?

I've not checked yet however I have recently included a 468 x 60 directly beneath postings, not actually technically in the footer, which also includes registration forms, and it's averaging a 1.8% CTR which has pleasantly surprised me.

OK, I've found this:

5. Prohibited Uses. You shall not,...(v) display any Ad(s), Link(s), or Referral Button(s) on any error page, on any registration or "thank you" page (e.g., a page that thanks a user after he/she has registered with the applicable Web site),

Yuck!

I'll be writing to them for a clarification if mine is, or is not ok...if not then Adsense will have to be removed completely from those 8 sites since it is completely interwoven into all the headers, navigation and forum pages.

>>on any error page, on any registration or "thank you" page

this was changed a couple of updates back to now include that you "can" have adsense code on error and thank you pages

Really? I copied that straight from their T&Cs just now...

Anyway, I've written to them and given them the URLs of the sites and explained how the forum is interwoven into the template and requested their comments.

If they say I do not comply then Adsense will have to be removed from those 8 sites.

I'll keep you informed.

it was listed on the Program Policies page under the heading Ad Placement

[google.com...]

but was removed a couple of updates ago, yes you are correct it is still listed under the Terms and Conditions Prohibited Uses heading but I have it on good authority that it is OK to have the code on error and thank you pages

yes please do keep us informed

I emailed adsense this very question when the TOS changed a few weeks ago.

They wrote me back --

****
Thanks for your email. After reviewing (web site name) , I can confirm that this page complies with our policies at this time.
****

With this response I left well enough alone.

Just like hal12b I received a response today:

"The way you have implemented AdSense within your sites does not contravene our programme policies."

Goog, good...see ya'll around, all this loggin-in and out to read postings is doing my head in...!
