Well, someone posted a thread (breaching guidelines as it happens) at 8:15 UK time, I read it at 8:16, and by 8:17 it was gone! Speedy work.

The thread, with innocent intent to expose, provided a link to an Adsense scam (the right thing to do is send the link to Adsense support, I guess, not post it here). It was rightly deleted, no doubt to discourage unscrupulous others from scamming as well (not that any unscrupulous people would be reading this forum, no, no, indeed). Having said that, any fraudulent pattern of clicks is likely to be picked up by Adsense, I'd have thought.

Anyway, congratulations to the expanded moderator team of Jenstar, mack and martinibuster - we'll no doubt see you in the next Guiness book of Records.

I posted to a thread and it was gone quickly, Said I was flaming...oh well, being a parent this particular thread starter rubbed me the wrong way. Sooo, perhaps it was a flame, who knows? Only the Mods know for sure. Bwaaahaahahaha.

Serously though, they are doing a good job. :)

Ha, Ann!

I do understand your point!

I am a parent too, but my older child is 7 years old so I can relax for a few years more, can't I?

I posted similar sentiments right after you, Ann...

But the Mods know what is best: We publishers are not allowed to CHIDE & GOAD fellow publishers into better behavior. No attempts at "self-policing" AdSense members.

Judging by some of the things that a few AdSense Publishers post, I certainly wouldn't want them as next-door neighbors. But seeing how I am associated with them through the AdSense program, I wish there was some method to ascertain some modicum of professionalism.

HOWEVER I do question the Mod's justification of allowing some posters to write "I'm 17 and been in Adsense for blah, blah. blah..."

When is CLEARLY STATES in Google's TOS:

[google.com...]

You represent that You are at least 18 years of age and agree that Google may....

Seems like some WW Editorial Standards need to be reexamined.

I understand your point but if we adjusted our standards to disallow people who don't follow Google's rules that means people who spam blogs couldn't ask questions about that, and people who indulge in aggressive linking couldn't talk about fooling google through sophisticated link development methods.

You are free to point out Google's rules to someone who is flouting it, but that cannot be a justification for being less than polite to a fellow WebmasterWorld member.

We are here to discuss issues. Pointing out the age discrepancy was a cool thing. Being less than polite is not. There's a difference.

We are a large community and members are at different stages of business, moral and personal development. The emphasis is on discussion, as it says on the front page of WebmasterWorld, so it's important that we be civil to one another.

Google has confirmed you can sign up under your parent's name if you're under 18.

martinibuster - seems like I remember quite a few times various respected WW members "politely reminding" fellow AdSense publishers about certain "oversights & possible mistakes" ONLY for their "soft approach to be VIOLENTLY attacked by the baser elements you seek to protect - accompanied by comments like "Google Police" and other such derisions (if their thoughts were even legible).

I have noticed several outstanding members completely stop posting because of the abusive treatment they received... MUCH MORE blistering than anything ANN ever posted...

In fairness for all members... Please keep the subversive types under similar restraint as you have asserted upon the more conservative (and law abiding) amongst us.

Thank you for taking a proactive stance on bringing civility to the AdSense thread... I hope it is a successful endeavor.

You can look at it this way,

I am now getting more work done as I post less. :)
Still try to be active though.

Under attack right now for posting a cautionary statement and immediately jumped on as being a conspiracy theorist.

Oh well, such is life. I am a grown girl so I can take the flack.

Because of this post, I know two new moderators have been added for this forum. This tells me how lazy I am these days. When did happen?
Good luck to mack & martinibuster!

If you feel someone is being disrespectful, the best approach is to sticky the mods of this forum with the details and let us take care of the offending party.

By taking the bait you are only raising your own blood pressure and getting into a useless discussion that will only end up getting deleted anyway, if not the entire thread.

So in order to preserve the discussion, it is always better to not get sucked into responding to less than polite posters. Let the mods and admins take care of it for you.

I enjoy reading this forum, especially the contributions of the members posting to this thread. In the long run, keeping this forum civil will benefit the discussion, which is what we are here for in the first place, right? ;)

Being a mod is a difficult job - all respect to those that do it! How do you please everybody all the time? You can't, so I guess it's a thankless job.

I think that discussing stuff that some consider off topic is valid, as you get a "Heads up" on what's happening. But I do agree that civility is important, and that's the most difficult thing for mods to judge.

For example, I'd like to see a current poster that is excessively verbose, and over-opinionated slapped for being excessively verbose and over-opinionated, not adding to the debate and simply putting off others with more valid viewpoints from posting. But how would a mod be able to judge that? And should they even try?

If they help civility that's a good thing and we should respect them for that. It's not an easy job, and that should be respected too.
