Has Anyone Any Experience With A Successful UK Community Site

Do they work in the U.K.?

If so, does Adsense work well on them?

Do they make reasonable money for the effort?

What percentage of visitors per capita of regional population is considered good?

Or do we Brits just not bother since we have a myriad of local information available through free press, local radio, TV etc?

Upsides? Downsides?

Communities tend to be browsers rather than shoppers - I wouldn't personally base a business on a community, particularly an AdSense business. There are exceptions of course, but generally communities thrive on repeat visits, whereas adverts become stale and uninteresting.

Hi MG

Do you know of any successful UK community site? All the ones I have seen are so dire amateurish doesn't even begin to describe them...

I agree that Adsense wouldn't seem to be the obvious advertising medium of choice however with the Adwords advertisers being able to specify it could be a more precise alternative maybe?

The problem I have is actually finding such a UK site!

Any suggestions anyone?

I run a type of community site which I have incorporated Adsense into with limited success. Most visitors are repeat visitors so combating ad blindness is a big deal. Just get creative!

One thing I've done to attract viewers interested in buying stuff it to promote locally-made products and real estate. It helps the community and my earnings at the same time!

I also supplement my Adsense revenue by offering premium features on a subscription basis.

I'm not making enough from the site to quit my day job, but am making a nice little extra income from it. The site is also a hobby so it's not just about the money. The money is just icing on the cake. Good luck.
