Moments ago I received an e-mail from Adsense. As the pessimist I am, I became rather worried about the situation at hand. When I read the e-mail, my worries changed from one thought to another.

It appears that someone took my Adsense code, created an account on a free hosting site, and created a webpage full of ads using my code. They utilized iframes to put several of these ads on the page, and even put "CLICK ADS TO CONTINUE" over many of them.

Now I'm grateful that they merely disabled advertisements to the particular website and not my adsense account (as I've seen some people report in the past on here), but what kind of prevention is there from stopping anyone from doing this to adsense publishers? If someone takes your code to try and get your account shut down for violations, what do you do? Especially when you probably wouldn't even know about it.

Sounds like AdSense recognized that you had nothing to do with that site. If they hadn't, considering how egregious the TOS violations were, they would have shut down your account.

So they must be at least somewhat on top of this.

If you haven't already, email them and thank them, telling them that you have no connection to that site and that you are very glad they took that action. Ask them if there is anything you can do.

I suppose you're right, and we think alike, that was the first thing I did when I recieved the e-mail.

I wonder if it would be a good idea for Webmasters to email them a list of sites on which they are using Adsense, as a measure to pre-empt and possible problems like this.

In fact, it would possibly be a good idea to Adsense to instigate a system when you could list active domains as part of your account (either mandatory or voluntary) which the Adsense people could then cross check if they found any problems with a Webmaster's account.

Just an idea.

I think there should be a provision to add alist fo your sites and ads should run only on them.

All my pages have a little Javascript calling cgi.my-server.com

When somebody copies a whole page, he usual copies also this javascript.

That shows up in the referer log of cgi.my-server.com
