One with content. Of course, such content could consist entirely of Google Ads and keyword-laden menus, as I've seen on some sites, but real content seems to work pretty well too.

And by the way, we can't post URLs here.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld NewOne...

Anyone want to start a book on how long it is before the "I got banned" thread?

what kind of website would be popular?

There are somewhere about 35 million registered domains therefore a few of those may be popular:-)

Porn sites, gambling sites, sites with excessive foul language, snuff videos and guns for sale are all very popular.

I think the list was missing MP3 downloads and warez!

Changing the subject - You know, it's odd that people are selling MFA sites on ebay that violate the TOS. Wonder if they get a refund when they get banned? Hmm.........

How could we forget the single most popular kind of website: websites of webmasters who click their own ads!

The realy popular sites are those that copy/steal content from other hard working webmasters and out it on there own site and pass it off as there own work, oh and its a realy good idea to hotlink the images and downloads as well (saves you having to pay for the hosting fees).

oh and google wont mind you doing all the above things (sad but this is true by the way)

regards

Don't forget to disable the back button! Although it's against the TOS to do it, they don't seem to enforce that one.

guns for sale

They'll ban 'em, trust me. I had a lucrative BB gun site that they axed earlier this year. Friggin' BB GUNS! They're kids toys for cryin' out loud. OH well, didn't work when I argued it with them either. :-)

Review sites work very well because they convert well for the advertiser and therefor are very likely to duck the dreaded smart pricing :O

ok enoughs enough people.

To answer the lead posters original question :

find a subject you like. it takes hard work and if oyu do not like the subject you will get bored and dump the project.

within that subject look for niches which are underdeveloped or ripe for expansion.

quality really is important.

I have a new site that is registering approx 20%favicon downloads from all unique visitors, and one third of daily traffic is repeat visitors. That is the quality content advantage.

To get equally serious, I'll also say that quality pays. My site has been around a while it's true, but the reason I'm doing well isn't because of age of site, but content. I started the site because it was a topic that interested me. I'm now what some people might call an authority on the subject. It's intereresting to note that I got a promotion in the new Google shake-up.

To answer the OP's question properly - don't go looking for high paying keywords, go for a topic you can write about, and make a site that is interesting that people will want to come back to. very often people with weird niches do extremely well out of adsense - me included.

The problem with going for popular topics is that everybody else is doing the same! The other misconception is that if a keyword pays £20 per click on one site, your site will get the same per click. It doesn't work that way. Advertisers will ONLY pay high rates per click on sites they know have worked well for them in the past.

The other point is that what keywords are popular right now will be saturated by lunchtime tomorrow, and the whole debate will be about what new keywords are high by teatime.

In addition, adsense is a bit of a roller coaster with the constant changes of algorythms, and Google's frequent juggling around of the serps. The best way to ride the waves is to have a well written, popular site. Having a site geared purely towards adsense - especially en vogue keywords is not a good way to get the best out of the program in the long term.

Write about a topic you know about, promote the site well and watch adsense work for you.

sites that copy other site content are very popular and very easy to set up....money gaurentee.... search google for midget than go to listing #1 #2 use copy paste to your own page. upload and voila...if you copy 5pages a day you can increase your site with 150 all new pages a month...google will love you,,,,of course u can use a copying program but its not as much fun
