Need expert advice

Higher CTR, same eCPM

I have recently increased my CTR but the eCPM has stayed the same. If you were me, would you leave it as it is or revert back to the original ad placement? What are the positive/negative of sticking with the higher CTR if my ultimate goal is to increase revenue?

This always happens when I increase CTR.

I know how to increase my CTR - but the EPC just falls off to compensate for the extra clicks. It's almost like it pays a "salary"...

I would assume the only way to improve this would be to increase the amount of clicks that convert for the advertiser. Having no statistics that tell you how you're doing in the conversion area will make this next to impossible - have fun :)

Welcome to the wonderful world of Smart Pricing.

I would leave it at the high CTR position.

Keeping in mind the eCPM is the same. Can you list the positives/negatives of leaving it at a higher CTR?

dzcap - that's a good question.

I hope we can get an answer from someone with some substance to it.

This is what I'm trying to contemplate as well. If it doesn't matter what my CTR is.. and I end up making the same no matter how much I improve it - which should I stick with.

Excellent question - waiting on the edge of my seat for some expert advice.

I have recently increased my CTR but the eCPM has stayed the same.

Had the same problem in May. Higher CTR, lower EPC.
But some weeks later, high EPC came back, high CTR remained and eCPM was increasing.

Another thing is, CTR I can control, but smart-pricing I cannot.

Frankly, while I understand why Google is trying to create some wonderful "algo" to precisely reward high conversion rates, etc., I think the end result is only going to move publishers away to the competition: Chitika, YPN, etc. And it doesn't matter how much better off an advertiser is in terms of conversion rates if a program has no publishers displaying their ads.

If they're going to monkey around with things, publishers need to understand how they are doing what they are doing so they don't go running to the competition.

[added]Oh, btw, I'm testing out Chitika now and so far like what I'm seeing.[/added]
