Firstly, new here. Hello all!

Main point..

I recently got accepted into G Adsense, and placed one of their ads on my site's home page (I intend to put it on more pages when I next update)

The first day of showing the ad gave tremendous results, but the days following have been nothing like the first day. (To put it another way, on the first day, I could have given up work. On the second day I would barely buy lunch)

AFAIK, no 'free' ads have been shown (Can't think of the term you guys use - sorry)

Has/Did anyone else have this. I think it may be due to the nature of my site, which attracts a lot or repeat visitors who may click on them when they first see the ads, but will ignore them on later visits.

So my questions are:

Did anyone else have this?
Have you managed to resolve this situation.

Look forward to recieving y r comments and I apologise if this has been brought up before

Grant

It could be as simple as your regulars saw that your page had something new on it and couldnt help clicking.

Can someone explain these PSA (free public service ads) how do i know if an ad is a PSA

You will find a list of the PSAs in this thread:
[webmasterworld.com...]

And then these two were added a few days ago (which aren't on the above list):
[webmasterworld.com...]

You can also tell by the URLs if you right click the ads - they will go straight to the site rather than have the Google tracking URLs. Paid ads start with [pagead2.googlesyndication.com...] or [googleadservices.com...] when you right click or view the link properties.

No, but you can specify alternate ads to appear in place of PSAs.

"Ad Server: You can also enter the URL of your ad server. For more information on linking to a third-party ad server, please contact your ad network directly."

That it?

Do you use an ad server? Did you read all of #11?

If you find the information confusing, I would suggest that you contact AdSense directly since you seem to have a lot of questions.

Welcome basenotes!

basenotes, I think it's reasonable to say that it wouldn't be uncommon for this to happen. I certainly observed the same.

My site is as yet pretty low traffic, but nonetheless I have had a much lower click rate than initially (especially now that my ads aren't working :-) ).

My thinking is that the key here is to add new content regularly. If the topic's of particular interest to people - perhaps they're researching it prior to making a purchase - then they will be most likely to click on a relevant ad. Thus this must be a part of your marketing strategy - make sure they get the page high in the search rankings when they enter the keyword into the search engine.

I don't think anyone could call themselves an expert on maximizing their earnings - some do certainly do better than others - but I think that the message here is that the best earner is quality content.
