I know that you can put image on top or bottom of the adsense code. Can you put image on the side? Nothing flashy or animated. Simple image just to fill the gap. No pointy arrows or any other scams. I can't seem to find the answer.

I think you are allowed, but check with Google first as it is better to have their confirnmation in your records in case some other support person bans you for it.

If you are fitting Google into your layout why shouldn't you be able to put an image next to AdSense? Can you put text next to your AdSense ads? A menu? You just shouldn't use an image designed to increase CTR by somehow calling attention to AdSense. An example of this would be a big arrow GIF pointing to the ads. Sure we've seen that done all over the web but they get caught and booted.

This has been discussed in many threads and recently.

Just be careful it does not lead your readers to think that the Google ad is somehow related to the image.

When done on top it should be separated by an hr to show no relation.

What do you separate it with when it's vertical? I'll stick in a vertical line image for now.

not sure but if enough space is allowed between them it should be obvious that they are not connected.

Yes, Ann is correct...allow enough "white space" around the ad to keep it from being misconstrued as part of your content.

We have done this with some adsense code, and had it reviewed. Oh, be sure the "Ads by Google" doesn't appear to run into your article content.

Google admins have seen the pages and site and have said it's fine, but be sure you check for your personal situation.
