Any references or starters on creating a basic forum?

I don't have any databases.

hmm, there is a lot of forum software around. Were you looking to roll your own or use an existing package?

Both options might be diffficult with out a database. You could look for 'flat file forum software'.

Flat file forums suck a lot of server resources if its busy, so expect an e-mail from your hosting provider if it gets too busy.

To be honest there are a lot of really cheap packages around with at least 1 database, so you might want to think about switching to another host?

switch hosts! sorry, I felt the urge to drop a line here. The best hosts usually run linux as the shared low cost hosting option and offer a huge variety of options with a low cost. I've been through a lot of hosts for primary and backup reasons. Watch out for those yearly deals unless you trust them though. Do your research.

Flat files with large amounts of data will kill you, on time, speed, reliability, and bandwith.

side note: I was researching the top hosting companies per rate of increase in the past year, and it seems the major populace is looking for an aol of hosting. surprising? not really. there are some super php/mysql forums, and writing your own is not too dificult either. Plus it's super addicting. Good luck.

FYI, WebmasterWorld is a flat file forum and it works fast with a huge amount of traffic. This was discussed awhile ago [webmasterworld.com...] and I'm sure nothing has changed.

That said, I think there's many hurdles you'd have to overcome with your own flat file forum that would naturally be handled in a database such as mySQL.

I've found a new package with 30MB hosting with ASP and MSAccess.

Your application is being processed. You will receive an e-mail notification with your username and password within few hours.

If any of you know how to create a forum using ASP and MSAccess advice would be appreciated.

It would be appreciated if you posted your replies here. [webmasterworld.com]
