I'm attempting to look into putting some type of advertising on the website but I'm not really sure where to start. I really don't even know what kind of money this could bring in but I figure that anything is better than nothing.
The website is an informational site about shooting stuff with guns like locks and bulletproof glass and how it all reacts in real life. It's like a mythbusters of sorts, if that helps anything.
Thanks for any help.
Michael
Google finally contacted me a week later after several emails from me informing me of my banned from advertising status.
Is there something else that I could try?

So I guess that is a no-go as well.

I'm looking to sell advertising, not purchase it. We've got a ton of people coming to the website and we're not making any money from it so I'm just looking to reap some back from the work that we've put into it.
I think the best way is to sell some space, like for a link. You could sell bannerspace BUT a text link gets the MOST click-throughs (best money value for the customer), is the easiest to 'fit,' and won't bog down your site's load-times - The text link really kicks.
I'll give you an example but it is not safe for work (or children, or anyone uptight), so keep this in mind but these guys sell space (for ideas for you):
<snip>
Price-wise, that's something you need to gauge. As a tip, you can always start high and come down later is easier than if you start too cheap :) Now it may surprise you, but for me and my site selling links rocks!
That's what I would do, sell link(s) for a period of time. Another webmaster I know has a ppc setup where webmasters deposit an initial minimum, then set a price per click and only pay per click but this involves software... Thou it would likely get more initial interest, the pay/week or /month scheme works just as well.
Then the only other thing you need is set it up so ppls can pay online IMMEDIATELY for which you can use paypal, also I recommend:
[2checkout.com...]
[clickbank.com...]
(You will need to set up an 'account set up page' on your site, not too much needs entering here but it is very important the customer enter the URL they want advertised, do this via a mail-form so the site mails you the output of the form).
Hope that covers it...
Good luck!

[edit reason] removed links as per TOS [/edit]
You could get a cgi-based 'click-counter' script for starters, then implement that on your main page and use it to link to something related for 2-3 days (doesn't matter, pick someone you like lol) so you can see the number of visitors clicked through. Then maybe pick someone unrelated and link to that for 2-3 days, see the number of clicks again... Now you got the two extremes, you should have a low and a high figure :)
Then this may help give you an idea towards the $$$$...
You can charge high if you want but around 2-4 cents/click or thereabouts if it gets 200 clicks/day then that's already 180 dollars / month (at 3 cents/click).
