Hello

Curious question for you. Can you use Adwords with a link to your email address instead of a domain name?

I am in sales and I am looking for new clients worldwide but I need to talk with them on a one to one basis.

We have no website for our potential customers to respond to, so I was wondering if I give them an email address will this work? Also is it ok with Google Adwords?

Please Advise. Thanks!

That would be like having a listing in the phone directory when you have no phone.

do a try with the mailto: url-pseudo-protocol. it's rfc specified i think.

but you should check the TOS before you do so.

Why don't you just build a little 1 page site? This way you can tell a little more about your company to potencial clients.

Well, the 'Editorial Review Team' answer is that your ad must link to a website. This is because AdWords is built around the idea that when a user clicks on an ad, they'll be taken to a site that is highly related to the ad.

Users expect this, and if they were taken to an email address instead it is a bit of an odd experience.

I think 'thewebboy' had some great advice, by the way!

If you link to a mailto: link instead of a webpage, Google (or anyone else for that matter) will never know that you clicked on the ad, since it should open up your configured (or default) email program.

Putting contact addresses/phone nos etc. in PPC ads is a cute trick, but don't expect to get away with it for long ;)

I agree with thewebboy, start by getting a site online. A site doesn't have to be big, fancy or extravagant. Even something simple with a bit about your business and your contact information would suffice (although something a little more in depth wouldn't hurt!)

In short, if you are going to spend money on Adwords, spend the money on getting a decent business website up.

There is absolutely no way I would send an email to anyone I didn't know, if it popped up a new mail message when I clicked on an Adwords ad. So even if you theoretically could do it (and AdwordsAdvisor has already said you cannot), you would be getting plenty of clicks, but no emails for your money.

We often put our 800 number in AdWords as it reads 1-800-keyword and G has no problem with it, we've been doing that for months.

Why not just point to an email form page?
