Customers returning via AdWords

I don't know if this has been discussed before, but I have the feeling a lot of visitors to my website are repeatedly arriving via AdWords clickthrus - ie it doesn't occur to them to remember/bookmark the site and instead they just keep doing their keyword searches in Google and using the sponsored links to get where they want to go.

AdWords has done a lot for my site so I don't want to remove my ads, but I'm wondering if there's a way to dissuade people from repeat clicks.

There's tons of free JavaScript out there that you could insert on your page and say "Click here to bookmark this site so you can return again", etc.

Just look for a script that is cross browser compatible. It's been a while since I've done it so I don't know how Firefox figures into the coding.

Search on "bookmark site script" or similar

If what you suspect is true, think how high that incremental click's conversion rate is... and you can stop worrying about paying for another click to close the sale.

Bookmark suggestion is a good diea, I'm just suggesting the reality is, in this situation, that you won't be able to stop the behavior you're concerned with, and it isn't really a bad thing (in light of conversion probability behind it).

This happens all the time-I caught out a competitor of mine using click fraud and he admitted it. He wanted to call me to apologise - so he clicked through my ad again to find my phone number! So I paid for yet another click. Regular returning customers do this too -it costs them nothing and many do not realise that we pay per click.
