I hate to post this, but a site search has yeilded nothing.

Does anyone have a good article/post about getting the most from your adwords account? More like this; www.searchengineblog.com/interviews/pay-per-click-part1.htm than this; www.google.com/adwords/tutorial.html. I'm sure there must be a thread around here somewhere.

Cheers,
Chris.

Chris,

I can see what you mean, however there is no adwords 101 that I know of (what is the # 101 all about anyway).

All I can suggest is read through every thread in this forum, and you will have ALL the best knowledge to hand, even some stuff which is NOT public knowledge.

failing that a search on Google using the following may help: site:www.webmasterworld.com adwords

Some of the worlds best PPC/Adwords managers are regular posters in this forum, and have shared a lot of knowledge over the past...

good luck

I was one of the participants in that 5 part round table discussion that ended up in the search engine blog, nice to know it was red and appreciated.

As far as Adwords 101 is concerned, there are some fundamentals to follow and there will be quirks relevant to your business only.

One thing I have seen rarely mentioned is the competition, you always here people going on about their competitors on Overture but rarely on Google, the discounter has given people a cosy feeling that they don't need to worry about competition.

The rude awakening on mis-spellings will make people very alert to competition now, assuming they check their ads regularly.

I'd suggest a week of intensive care of your ads will enable you to go out and leave the campaigns unattended for a day at the most, after that come back and revisit all the poor performing kewyords and tweak according to what the data tells you.

There was a really interesting thread in the Supporters' Forum about two weeks ago that talked about Adwords ... go over there and search back to about June 27th and you'll find it. ;)

Several folks posted a number of really interesting tidbits in that thread ...

Cheers everyone!

I'll have a hunt round. The reason I was looking for the information was to get some tips/hints for my collegue who will be dealing with Adwords from now on. Although she knows her way round Adwords, I wanted to give her some 'food for thought' in terms of getting best value for £.

(what is the # 101 all about anyway)

Not a clue, just heard the term banded about by US posters, and thought it might be a good search term.

Got the general idea that it means complete guide? Something like that anyway. Maybe i'm using the term wrongly.

<added>101 - stems from US college course names. Found here; http;//groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=lang_en&ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&c2coff=1&safe=off&th=b1defd1be8269013&rnum=4 ;)</added>

I have heard good things about Andrew Goodmans report called:

"21 ways to optimize a Google adwords campaign"

(havent read it myself yet though, as I am awaiting a signed copy :)

there has been a thread in supporters forum discussing the report for some time: [webmasterworld.com...]

101

In the US, Oz, NZ and possibly elsewhere a first year undergraduate course subject (unit) is given the number 101, e.g. Accounting 101. There are more specialised units 102, 103 etc. In the second year, the most basic would be Accounting 201.

Therefore, #101 in our context refers to the most basic and essential piece of knowledge.
