Hi,

Please can someone tell me how to get more of the top line ppc with google rather than the right hand side boxes.

Many thanks
Paul

Is 'position preference' in google worth using?

From what I understand Paul, it takes more than just paying more to get the top spot. You need a very relevant ad that receives a click through rate into the double digits. I've managed to get some of my keywords into this coveted blue zone , but they had CTR's of 15% or greater. I'm actually not paying that much on a CPC basis and it takes a very good quality score to reach this spot.

I hope this is more informative.

Very true CCam96.

Paul, there are different variables that has to be consider to bring your site on top. These variables are CTR [Click/Impression], Ad Copy Quality Score, Daily Budget - CPC, Landing Page and few other. [This is only in case of google adwords and not in yahoo overture]

But if you see there is a chain reaction to everything. to begin to this chain reaction you need to have a click - to get a click on your ad copy, you need good copy - to get visibility to the good copy, you need to be positioned high - to be positioned high you need to increase the cpc / daily budget.

Ad copy quality score can be acheived if you have less competition on a given keyword with a proper visibility on the first search made. for that ad position can be between 1.0 - 1.9 to 2.0 - 3.0

I hope these information is useful.

Ryan

I have noticed that high ctr=top spots.

Thanks again for spelling it out for me.

it takes more than just paying more to get the top spot.

Well I think paying a lot might get you up there too. Made an inactive keyword active (at $5 - to test it and see what happens) and the ad landed up on the top blue box. This keyword had no history. Was inactive since it was put into the ad group.

It's about reaching an undefined effective CPM threshold for that keyword. That can be done via CPC increases or via relevancy (CTR) increases. Most effective is - both.

Very True Poster_Boy

This is another way you can place yourself on the top.

But to reach to that threshold level, you need to go ahead with lot's of strategies as I mentioned above.

I have a fixed CTR abt. 1.5-1.7% , I pay the minimum for the keyword but still many times get the top slot.. Although I don't get it all the times, but I get it maybe 15/20% of the times.
Can't figure out why .
It seems totally random.

Come to think of it Green_Grass, I had seen the same thing happen to me before. Neither was the CTR nor CPC very high and my ads would show up in the top blue box for a bunch handful of keywords in the same ad group. Though I noticed that back then there wasnt too much competition on those words. Not sure if that had any effect on my position.
