Low Amount of Impressions.Why?

Hi

New to Adwords, and by the looks of the things I have a lot of reading to do. But...

I was just curious as to why I have only 300 impressions for a particular ad. It's been running for about a week, has about 80 keywords, $25.00 a day limit, .25 a click limit.

Only the top 14 keywords on my ad management page show some sort of stats, the rest are just blank. What's the purpose of adding keywords if Google won't use them?

Or are we supposed to use under 10 keywords? Is more or less better?

I just find it hard to believe that only 10-20 people a day are entering search queries for the keywords I have in my adwords campaign. Why aren't my ads showing up?

Thanksss.

Good questions. Well, first of all, there are of course many more search queries for your keywords, but if I am bidding more than you do, those impressions and clicks might end up with me;-)

Those keywords that remain unused, are they by any chance marked as "inactive for search"? If so, I guess you will have to raise your bid.

Mmm, 80 keywords isn't that much. I have adgroups that I stuff to the limit (2000 keywords). That is not always the best choice, but 80 keywords seems a bit modest to me...

Hmmm... Let my hijack this thread slightly - I have some keywords in a campaign running for a week now and my CTR is.... 0.00%....

I cannot accept that my ad is so terrible not even a single person will click on it!

(Pricing is set at G's recommended price.)

Thanks for the replies.

All keywords are active for search

Some show 1 impression, and are even located in the 130 position or more (which is bad, but at least their showing).

I just wish I knew why the other 70 are just chilling there, even if they were in position 150 then I would be happy at least knowing their floating around out there!

BTW... is it a good strategy to just use the "content" network to advertise, and to forget about those side search ads all together? Just curious...

Thanks again!

Content network is known for much lower conversions than the search network! It will bring down your ctr and might result in higher minimum bids!
So be careful with aiming solely at the content network...

Humblebeginnings,

I thought the CTR that you were "judged" by was strictly based on what you do in Google proper, google.com. They never used to penalize your CTR due to Content Network stats (or Search Network for that matter). Did that change?

BTW, Invisible777, Search over Content is generally preferred by most advertisers. Some however have found a good niche in Content though I doubt it's the majority. Many advertisers have Content turned off.

Search used to be much better. At one point a while back, Google loosened the requirements to be a Search partner and diluted its value.

For instance, Search partners like AOL, Ask, many cable/DSL provider sites are good converters. Often for instance, the cable/DSL providers set their page as the browser home page when users sign up and then the user hasn't a clue how to change it. These people represent good prospects as far as I'm concerned - more likely to click a neat concise ad than to wade through sometimes cryptic SERP summaries.

However to get at those good partners you have to take clicks from parked pages and some highly questionable Search sites too. You can't choose your Search partners sadly.

I'm following another thread where a few people turned off Search to see if they get improved ROI. I'll follow their lead once they have enough data to report.

Invisible, pass those dormant keywords through the Ads Diagnostic Tool. Be interesting to see what it says.

Are low impressions an across the board problem now?

This is me:

Date___ Click Impr.__CTR Avg_CPC___Cost
Apr 2nd: 717 38,626 1.85% $0.22 $159.28
May 2nd: 811 24,010 3.37% $0.25 $203.79

Now ain't that strange or what?
