Is it possible to filter out sites from the Google Search Network?

You can exclude certain Google Content Network websites using the Campaign Site Exclusion feature in AdWords.

But is it possible to exclude sites from the Google Search Network? How?

Lately I started seeing some unwanted clicks coming from certain website on the Google Search Network and would like to exclude them. I do not want to opt-out the whole network.

Hope somebody can help, thanks

No.

You must be an Adwords newbie.

Newbies tend to ask those embarassing questions that Google should have asked themselves before they ever launched Adwords...

That is, it's obvious to a newbie that it should work this way. But, somehow, Google never thought of this.

Is the Search Network just search engines that use google adwords in their sponsored search results along with organic search? Is a site that uses only sponsored google search results as their sole content considered search network or content network? You know, sites with good domain names but only google search for content?

Is there a comprehensive list of google's search network?

No.

Google defines "search" very broadly.

Search Network includes some sites in Google's parking program.

Calling these "search" is, IMO, deceptive.

Analysing my logs I can see that I am getting about 50% of the "Google Search Network" clicks from one single website which is not even a "search" site at all!

[the user does not search for keywords on that site so I do not even know why/how my adds are shown]

This specific site does not brings any ROI and I would like to exclude it.

I have sent a complaint to Google.
Waiting for their feedback.

I do not understand why this site is in the search network and not in the content network.

In my experience, Google will recitify this type of situation if brought to thir attention. That seems to be the result for the OP of this thread:

After I reported the issue mentioned in this post to the Google team, the result of the Google investigation is that my ads will no longer be shown on the reported site (which is part of the Google Search Network) and that the clicks that were coming from the unwanted website will be refunded. This is good news!

My conclusions:

a) If you do not carefully check your logs and actively monitor clicks coming from Search and Content Network, you may be paying for useless clicks.

b) You can exclude unwanted sites from the Content network (I have a list of 30 excluded sites). This is great becuase you can work on improving your content network ads ROI and bid more on the content network once all the unwanted sites are excluded.

c) Unfortunately you cannot exclude unwanted sites from the search network, but you can report them to the Google team. I do not know how Google qualifies sites in the Search network: it seems a mixture of very good but also quite bad sites that are not even 'search sites'. You will need to provide your log file entries which I did.

d) As far as I understood (Google would not confirm to me) the reported site is still part of the search network but they will make sure my ads are no longer shown.
