IP Redirects from Host, allowed with AdWords?

Server not working right, Host needs to redirect, is it o.k. with Google?

Hi everyone. Not sure if anyone can help me, but..... My Host has a problem with my server (long story, but basically the Apache program isn't able to call up my RSS feeds). They are suggesting I have them move my account to a server that does work properly with Apache. In doing so, they will have to "redirect" my site from the old server to the new server, which means changing my IP Address. Will this effect or compromise my AdWords acct.? I know Google is VERY fussy and I don't want to be penalized, but the visitor clicking won't even know. Note: this would be a redirect of my old IP address to the new IP address by the host, NOT a forwarding of the Domain to a different one. Thanks in advance for your help. Mark

In my experience, as long as the user ends up at example.com if that is your stated destination URL as well and consequently your display URL, Google has been cool about it so far. Any other "tricks", they're likely to mind.

What Israel said... What matters is that the domain name they wind up on is the one listed in the display URL.

IP addresses don't matter at all (except for the rare case where people have used an IP address in the display URL.)

I'm a bit confused, though, by your use of the term "redirect", and by this statement: " this would be a redirect of my old IP address to the new IP address by the host". Huh? Why not just change the DNS A record(s) for the web site? You just need to change where the domain points to. No need for any kind of redirect.

Thanks Israel and Jtara! Sorry it took me so long to get back and say a proper thank you, it's been so busy around here the last 2 days! You're right, Jtara, about DNS and not a "redirect". I'm a newbie and am somewhat limited on the correct jargon. The host is forwarding my current DNS to point to the new server until the new IP propogates via my Domain Registrar after I make the new DNS change there. Whoa, maybe I do know a little bit of the "Internetese" language! LOL Thanks again folks, it's your replies that gave me the confidence to go ahead and make the change without worrying so much about my AdWords acct. Mark
