1. Search with your keyword at google.com
2. At result page, add "&gl=us" to the url and then press Enter. Now you'll see ads in US

I would like to know this as well, danielanaidu. I am not sure if it is possible just by changing the URL though.

There aren't any URL characters that denote cities, states, or territories as far as I'm aware of.

You can often add the exact location to a query to bring up the ad.

For instance, if you were bidding on 'widget' targeted to Los Angeles, the queries:
Los Angeles widgets
Los Angeles, California, widgets
could trigger your ad.

To determine if an ad is running, Google's ad diagnostic tool does allow querying to a specific geo location, however, it won't show you the other ads on the search page.

The AdSense Preview tool has an option to allow you to narrow the ads down by country.

If you want to see the ads in real time on your site, change the browser language to "en-us".

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think if you go to local.google.com and type in your search query with a zip code in the area you are interested in, local and regional ads show up for that zip code.
