Newbie question about matching types

What happens if a phrase has a broad and phrase component?

Hi,

Could you tell me if this is a valid keyword phrase:
steel "red widget"

Or does the whole phrase have to be either broad, phrase or exact?

If it is a valid format how are those words matched with users search terms?

Hope someone can help, thanks

The entire keyword has to be broad, phrase, or exact.

Hi Jtara,

Thank you for your reply. Just so I am sure - the whole keyword phrase has to be only one type?

Do you know how google treats phrases like the one I suggested:
steel "red widgets"

Thanks

As an error.

Some of your keywords are not accepted for the following reason:

* Please enter only one keyword, and one keyword matching option, per line. For example, '[tennis shoes]' is fine, but '[tennis shoes] purple' is not. Please revise your keywords and resubmit.

Hi Jtara,

Yes that's what I thought.

But we've just taken over a clients account and they have several phrases made up of a word then a phrase:
steel "red widgets"

All active and getting impressions and clicks :-((

I've put in a suppport request with google to see what they say.
