Tracking match type and ad -

is there a way to realise this?

Hey,

using individual keyword destination URLs I can track campaign, adgroup, keyword, match type and even if the click came from content or search. That's great.

But if there are for example 3 different ads I want to split-test, how do I do this without loosing the possibility to track match type?

{keyword} only reports the keyword-string, so I can't use this an ad clickurl level. I could split my adgroup in 3, 1 for each match type, but this also breaks my ad history and produces a lots of work.

I hope there is a way to do this...

You can use the insertion {creative} to identify the ad that was used.

Not sure if there's a way to read the ad number without accessing the API.

Is anyone using this insertion variable?

Just found the answer.

If you run a 'text ad preformance' report, you can choose to have the column 'ad id' shown which will show you which number matches which ad.

Thank you eWhisper,

I never heard of the insertion {creative} before. Surely will try this!

I knew {keyword} and {ifcontent:...}{ifsearch:...}, are there any other insertions I should know about?

The other insertion is for a site targeted campaign. You can use the {placement} insertion to determine which site sent you traffic.

You can also just view source when logged into Adwords and viewing the Adgroup, and search for "CreativeID".
