What is your experience using Adwords as compared to a #1 organic result?

For example, if your closing ratio is 1:10 on an organic clickthru, how many clickthrus would you expect to need for the same word on the paid portion of the results page?

My guess would be 1:30 (in a situation where the organic was 1:10).

In other words, are organic results 3 times more effective than Adwords?

If you are seeing that kind of discrepency with regards to conversions you need to reconsider:

1) The keywords you are targeting.

2) The quality of your ad text to bring the "right" visitors.

I expect BETTER conversions from paid traffic. After all I am paying.

We see much better conversion rates from the PPC visitors, regardless of how well we saturate the organic listings. In our niche (legal), visitors may click organic listings several times to do research before they click a PPC ad and make the buy.

I'm all over the organics and am planning my adwords campaign so that's encouraging!

Just remember, when it comes to PPC its not the quantity but the quality of click-throughs.

In many cases you will find that your best performing (conversion wise) keywords shouldn't be, at face value.

Track the heck out of everything. Test and tune.
