google conversion off

google conversion tracking higher than my own tracking numbers

example:
my adwords account shows 10 conversion mtd for december, but my internal tracking system shows only 5 conversions.

i know that google has a 30 day cookie, and tracks the conversion back to the day of the click. therefore, i would expect that google mtd reporting numbers would actually be lower than what my internal tracking shows. however, google numbers are actually higher.

my internal system is supposed to track direct click to conversion.

any ideas of what could be the problem here?

thanks.

I have the same problem. So far in December, I've got 62 transactions recorded by Google, but only 35 transactions recorded by my own system (we count the number of times figures on the thank you page(s) are downloaded (this number also includes transactions from people who clicked in from Overture). The only way to open the thank you page(s) is by going through the transaction process.

I can think of a couple of reasons for the discrepancy.
(1) People click on our Google ad, click to our website, index a page, leave the site, and then return later that day, or even a few weeks later to make a transaction (however, I find it unlikely that so many people would do that).

(2) The figures on my thank you pages don't always get downloaded when visitors get to that page.

--- Any further thoughts on this?
