From the article

Briggs said AIT is able to see where each of its advertising clicks are coming from, and in-house reports showing clicks from the same IP addresses indicate they are fraudulent.

One should have thought that a hosting company would be aware that most IP addresses are dynamic, and that it is very common for multiple users to share an IP address - like an office full of people accessing the web through a firewall, for example.

I suspect this article is more about publicity fo AIT than any wrong doing by Google.

Is this the same company that had all the publicity 6 months ago about suing for the same reasons?

If not what ever happened to that case?

Click Defense I think was the lead plantiff who have withdrawn from that position. This company has taken over that position. Still the same case I believe.
