OK, so i'm from the UK (England) and have had an adwords account since February 2005. Google has always charged me VAT on this account from the start and they take the payment with the adwords charges.

Now There is a lot of talk on here about VAT refunds being issued by google.

Does this mean I will get one too?

If not, how come some people get it and others dont?

You reclaim VAT yourself if you are VAT registered. If you're not VAT registered, you can't reclaim.

Are you registered? If so, simply include the Adwords VAT you pay in your calculation for your VAT return.

Oops, sorry I forgot Google is invoiced from overseas. In that case, you register your VAT number with Google and you then don't pay the VAT.

If Google have charged you VAT prior to you registering your vat number with them (and you were previously a vat registered business), you can either:-

1. reclaim the VAT on your VAT return as an EU purchase (from Google Ireland)
or
2. you can ask Google to refund you, but dont hold your breath as they can take weeks to do it.

robjones2:

Take a look at Notice 723 for UK VAT office. If you incur VAT on goods and services from EU you have to make a special claim.

The notice is available online.
