Why is Google takin the liberty and ads for similar keywords

Quick question about broad matching. I am running a small test campaign bidding on one keyword using all three matching types.

However for the broad matching google is serving up my ad for "similar" keywords and my CTR is nothing near I want it to be.

For example, if i'm bidding on clean widget, I'm getting referals for widget cleaner. Is this a standard feature of broad matching? Can it be turned off somehow?

This is called broad matching.

There are three matching options, exact, broad, and phrase.

If you don't want to be seen for these 'related searches' then you need to switch to another matching option.
