Pausing ALL Campaigns - Any Negative Outcomes?

Lower CTR, Ad Position, or other risks from pausing?

We have too much business to handle until we hire/train new employees for our service business (YES, "It's a good thing" as Martha Stewart would say). We use Adwords with AWESOME results. But, due to too much business, we need to temorarily pause our only 2 ad campaigns (1 Local and 1 Regional in same account) for a few weeks. Are there ANY risks with doing so, like decrease in CTR, Ad positions, etc... when we re-activate them? I am sure this is posted somewhere in here, but can't seem to find it, and Google only seems to tell you how to pause but not if there's any risks. Any help from you seasoned experts is greatly appreciated. Thanks, TCLCORP.

I've never seen an issue with pausing accounts before.

It is possible to come back in a lower position because there are new advertisers in the marketplace. If you're gone for quite some time, there can be a lot of new advertisers and it might seem like you lost position. However, it's just because you saw all the changes at once and not their gradual intro into your space.

Agreed!

Also, in the past, I've seem some advertisers with the happy problem of "too much business" let their account tick along quietly with a very low daily budget.

Glad you are having this issue tclcorp! ;)

I had to pause a campaign for over a year due to a merchant turning out to be a crook. When I found a new supplier I turned the campaign back on.

Thing is, in the old days Google's relevancy algo must have been better. I ended up benefiting from a sky-high historical CTR.

Due to all this, when I'm actually paying any attention at all to Adwords, I'll sometimes switch off campaigns on days with low overall CTR and wait till I think Google has stopped messing about.

Thanks folks! Never thought about new competitors coming in, makes sense. Also, the idea of just decreasing daily spend limit is enticing as well. Hmmmm....just have to decide to pause or decrease daily budget now. Thanks again, Mark
