Changing destination URL?

is adding tracking data on URL enough to destroy your position

I'm starting to use some tracking software for keywords etc. However, to implement it fully for PPC, I would need to change my URLs from:

www.mysite.com

www.mysite.com/?engine=google&keyword=elephant

Now,I'm very concerned that to change my destination URL, even with something as seemingly minimal as this would completely mess up my ad position and CTR.

Am I correct?

Incidentally, I believe someone posted once a possible workaround for this by using powerposting to change the destination URL - I'm not sure if this is so...and it would mean changing hundreds of individual keywords, but for peace of mind that's a fair trade off.

Unfortunately, yes.

possible workaround

Changing the destination URL for individual keyword phrases doesn't effect CTR history. If you change your URL for each keyword phrase in the adgroup, you can effectively change the entire adgroup's destination URL without losing CTR history.

The easier thing to do is to not delete the old Ad and paralelly run the new ad. Once you new Ad has got sufficient histroy delete the old Ad. Even with this method there might be some amount of loss of position but it would not be as bad as deleting the old ad and then adding the new ad.

I have't seen any evidence that changing the URL destroys position.

It only will temporarily move from the blue box (if it was in it), to the side until it is reviewed by a human. After it is reviewed it goes back to the blue.

If it wasnt in the blue to begin with, it doesn't matter.

I am not 100% sure about this, so change it at your own risk. This is just my experience.
