Just when you think Google can't get any more screwed up

... ad disabled after one year because of one click

My one word [keyword] adword that has been running for 50 weeks was permanently disabled by Google yesterday. When I inquired to support the bizarre reply was that it had "proven too general" of a keyword for me because... in one stretch of 1000 impressions my ad got four clicks instead of the minimum five!

That is plainly absurd, as I've had the word for a *year* and have double the clickthroughs of the minimum!

This [keyword] gets 5000 or so impressions a day, meaning that after all this time my ad is now permanently disabled because ONE MORE PERSON in a four hour span didn't click my ad!

I suppose the thing to do now is for me to reload a search page for that word 1000 times, so that every other adword also becomes permanently disabled!

Unbelievable.

This same thing happened to us this week. On one of our mispellings of a main keyword we had a 1.7% CTR in the previous 30 days on just under 5000 impressions. Unfortunately in the last 1000 only 4 clicked through. We did not change anything. Unfortunate for both AdWords and ourselves as we were the only advertiser under that search term. These are not done manually.

Forutnately just a small change in the ad will get it back on line.

>>> permanently disabled by Google

Whoa! Now that's new - when did they start permanently disabling keywords just because they don't meet the CTR requirements?

A quick change in the ad copy accompanied by an increase in the max CPC along with placement of the keyword in a seperate adgroup should immediately revive the dead keyword.

Just goes to show that it seems Google's *new* intention is to make money... not a surprise, especially if they're planning on going public.

Perhaps this *new* Google update is also nothing but a sign of the same.

Unfortunatley, when you have shareholders ( or soon to be)... profit is the number 1 game.

What a pity... :(

"A quick change in the ad copy accompanied by an increase in the max CPC along with placement of the keyword in a seperate adgroup should immediately revive the dead keyword."

I'll try that, but that is not what the emails said.
